Offline mode? Desperate
A kind of desperate question, from someone who doesn't understand much about steam in general (only got it for house flipper, and has gotten one other game, dorfromantik, since):

Is there any way to play House Flipper without internet connection?
I think there is an "offline setting" to steam in general, but I don't know how that works with the games themselves.

See, I am moving soon, and unfortunately it looks like I'll end up somewhere there is no internet (or any other kind of) connection at all. There are plans to install fiber, but that will take months at best.

No tv, no internet, no nothing for me. I'm clinging to some shred of hope for my sanity that maybe house flipper or sims 4 (as much as that isn't currently exactly playable) could work in some limited capacity even without that.

Yes, this is possible. You log in and when your library opens, click on "Steam" in the top left corner of the menu and then choose "Go offline". Then you can play any games in the usual way but you have no access to anything else. No wishlist, no profile, nothing that normally works with internet connection. You can check it out now by cutting your current internet connection, then you will be also able to play offline in the described way. :-)

In addition to what MagicLight said:

If your internet is Already off, trying to log into Steam will cause a window to pop up, giving you the option to "Start Steam in Offline mode".

There are some Steam games, mostly MMOs, that require an internet connection to run. The majority however, including House Flipper, do not. So it should run in offline mode with no problem.

I'm not sure if you need the Cloud Sync feature, but I have it turned off for House Flipper specifically, as apparently it causes problems with saves and lost progress for some players. My game still runs normally regardless - the saved games simply go to the hard drive on my PC. Check where your saves are stored, just in case.

Regarding Sims 4: I'm not sure how that one would run offline, as I have never tried to play it in offline mode. I'm not sure how essential the Origin launcher is, particularly if you run DLCs purchased on Origin through Steam.

Thank you both so much!
If this move goes through I will indeed not have any internet connection at all, so what a relief that (in what I imagine will be a tough time for me in general) I will still be able to play House Flipper at least.
I, too, have cloud synch switched off these days, instead I do a manual backup once in a while.

You can also easily play Sims 4 offline, if you set Origin to offline and turn off auto-updates. I don't play offline myself, but I know many do, for different reasons (like waiting for updated mods). Just check Origin once in a while, because apparently it has a mind of its own, and will attempt to connect regardless. Sneaky thing.

Don't I first have to connect to Origin though? I know I can set Origin to offline once I've logged in, but in this scenario I won't have internet connection at all, so I wouldn't be able to log in (thereby opening Origin). Would it still work?

Yes, you need to connect to Origin initially, to set it to offline. Just do that before you move, when you still have a connection. Once its offline, it should stay that way.

Found a page that explains things a lot better than I can, since I've rarely use Offline mode:

There is a mobile version of HF from PlayWay. Just check Appstore (or whatever source you use for your mobile). I've played it on my iPad, and its quite fun.

Also for new games you haven't played yet, many of them must be connected to internet the first time you launch. Some even more often, thank you Denuvo.
