Feature Request: Garage Conversions.
I know this has been requested multiple times before, but we really need the ability to sell garage doors and replace them with glass doors/windows.

In the base game in particular, there are several houses where the garage is one of the biggest rooms, but with no drivable cars it just ends up being dead space... Especially as those houses also tend to have separate store rooms. Putting a door or window in, and actually having the game recognise it as a "bedroom" or a "living room" would open up so many possibilities!

i agree with that

Nah, there's no need for that. It's not a driving game, so you don't need drivable cars, and there's already cars in the game you can place in your garage, as well as a few garages that show what else you can do with that space that most people without cars do, like a small living room in a corner, or a workshop, complete with tool bench.

And I would really want to turn some spaces in to garages.

That's not my point. If you look at the House with a Car, for instance, it has just one bedroom, which is rather small. The garage, on the other hand, is the biggest room in the house. The Uninhabited House has a very awkward living space, and again, a huge garage.

Of course, it is possible to put a bed or a sofa in those rooms. But the room is still listed as a "garage". Not to mention that the garage door is very immersion-breaking. Replacing it with a glass door or window would automatically turn it into an extra room, while requiring very little extra time or money from the player.

Yes this is a great idea

Yes, but it's still not necessary. You mention a lack of space as an argument, but there are so many houses with no garage and plenty of space you could buy instead. And if you got your wish and we could turn the garage into a regular room, then the opposite would be expected, that we could turn any room into a garage as well.

You buy houses with garages, because you want the garage, not because you want the extra space.

wait for the farm DLC, it will have garage expansion
tatiana Jan 9, 2022 @ 2:31am
@Theme Park: You are talking as if we are discussing real-life houses, and not houses in game. Why turn a room into a garage if there are no cars to buy? Also, the Game Over achievement requires you to sell All houses at least once, garage or no garage. And I've always felt like re-purposing and re-arranging rooms is part of the fun of House Flipper, so not being able to properly re-purpose a garage is a little bit strange.

@Nite69: One of the Luxury DLC jobs requires you to do Exactly what I'm suggesting - sell the garage door and put a window in instead. Therefore it must be a planned feature. It may be minor enough for the devs to be able to add it in a free update (maybe with the April house) without us needing to wait a year or so for the farm DLC to come out.

The game, as it stands limits imagination. Games, all games are imagination based, so, yes, we do need to be able to utilise excess garage space. We also need to have the ability to stretch our homes into the excess garden space, though, I appreciate this requires a lot more programming effort to achieve. It is quite ridiculous to have a huge empty garden surrounding a tiny one room cabin or a garage twice the floor area of the house.

Yes I know of that mission, the DEV's were probably using that mission as a test for later DLC content

He is probably confusing this with The Sims!

You buy houses with garages, because you want the garage, not because you want the extra space.

It's a game giving you the freedom to decorate and design houses inside and outside. Making something like a garage not being able to converted to a room is just limiting the freedom and should be removed. Who cares that there are multiple houses without a garage. I've done multiple houses 2 or 3 times and I want to see what I can do with each space each time. Having to let the garage be the garage is kinda limiting. So why not give the freedom to do whatever we want with the garage? Isn't that the whole point of the game? Freedom in what you want to decorate and design?

I'm not exactly sure how the rooms are counted but any garage could be repurposed into other rooms. Merely by putting up walls and placing the appropriate furniture like beds .. should create another bedroom.
There's one house (I forget which one ) that had a large garage and a small room behind it. Which was as long as the garage was wide and only useful for a Looong toilet, However as the house already had 2 toilets, I didn't want another one. So I shortened the garage and turned the tiny toilet room into a family / TV room. Only leaving enough space in the garage for bikes or storage.

I would love to have more choice in what I do, so being able to remove a garage door would be great. If not then I may only leave a cupboard with and wall as much as I can.

I hear what you are saying, but, cosmetically a room without windows or with inadequate windows does not have a lot of appeal. It is much more realistic to have rooms which would be acceptable in real life. :steamsad:
