Can you use this as a designer game?
Make your own house how you want, add rooms and takeaway stuff. Or is everything preset?

as of right now you cant add extensions to the main walls outside. but you can take every wall inside out and basically just have the outer walls and make rooms different layout wise.

Yes and No. You can add/remove walls on the inside. Paint, add flooring, tiles, furniture, decorations (can add more options through the Steam workshop) etc.

However, you can't alter the house's external walls, add floors, basements, add/remove windows and stairs. If you wish to alter anything to do with the gardens you will need the DLC to do so.

So, yes the game gives quite a bit of creative freedom, but you are restricted in some areas. :)

Why would you choose this over the numerous specialized programs that are out there? Hell, even Sims 4 does design better than this game, mainly because it has a near infinite source of things you can choose from to place. Even base Sims 3 or 4 would be better for design purposes.

I googled some things, "best home design programs", and got a list too long to cover. There is no shortage of specialized and professional programs to this end.

This is a game, that is all this is. And it is not particularly "gamey" as far as games goes, more of a toy than a game, really.

Currently I choose House Flipper over all the other 'house designing' games ánd software that I have tried and I tried mány. All the software I find too difficult, too expensive, (way to) too ugly graphics wise or they lack immersion and in many cases more of those 4 combined. The Sims is definitely better (way more comprehensive) than House Flipper when it comes to building and customization, but I still like House Flipper more, because in comparison to House Flipper I HATE the camera view of all The Sims (in buy/build mode) and I also really HATE the graphic design/style of The Sims 4. And those things are just really important for me. But yeah, unfortunately, so far, House Flipper is pretty limited in other ways. I really hope that will change in the future (because House Flipper has my heart), but if it doesn't then I'm more and more getting my hopes up for

Dreamhouse: The game https://store.steampowered.com/app/1468400/Dreamhouse_The_Game/

and/or

AlterLife
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1511480/AlterLife/

as those seem to offer what I am réally/tótally looking for in a house/garden designing game with a lot of immersion... But at this moment I honestly think House Flipper (albeit limited) is the best option!

You have forgotten the most important reason why House Flipper is better than the Sims - price! The Sims theoretically has more options for furniture and accessories than House Flipper does, but only if you buy expansions, which are way too numerous and expensive. House Flipper only has 2 paid and 2 free expansions, which are reasonably priced for the content you are getting.

Regarding upcoming games: "Dream House" is already on my wishlist, but "AlterLife" seems Extremely sketchy to me, due to lack of news updates from developers on the Steam page - could be "vapourware".

"Paralives" is another game with a promising build mode I'm keeping an eye on, with an active development team. Here's their latest video:

I totally agree with you that The Sims is a hell of a cash cow of a game and that that is another important reason to favor HF over The Sims, but - for me personally - that is, in the end, not that big of a deal as the things I myself mentioned. (Also, all in all it's still almost nothing in comparison to the price of professional software like Chief Architect :D).

You're also right about Alterlife, but I have not totally written that game off yet, though. One reason being that the devs dó respond to (some of the) questions on Steam. We have to wait and see. I really hope it's legit, because it looks very awesome in my opinion!

You're álso right about Paralives haha, but that game doesn't have my personal interest (anymore), because I really don't like the cartoony graphic style of it (and I think I also don't like the camera view there, although - unfortunately - the same could be the case for Alterlife). I really want a house building/decorating (and life sim) game to be/look more realistic.

For now I am getting my hopes up the móst for Dreamhouse: The game. For everyone interested, I recommend you to join their Discord. There they give updates on a regular basis (much more often than on Steam)!

@ Forbry: I don't feel like Paralives is cartoony at all! The furniture/accessories and buildings seem quite realistic, and the "paramaker" seems to allow for reasonably realistic face and body proportions. No gameplay has been shown yet, so we don't know what the animations will be like. However, they seem a lot less exaggerated than in Sims 4, or maybe even the Sims series in general. Relative "minimalism" when it comes to the amount of details in each item could actually be a good thing, reducing the game's overall file size and system requirements.

It is also unclear what camera controls will be like, but mod support has been confirmed, so a fully first-person view is likely to be possible. My only criticism so far is the "washed out" colour palette, but bright colours is something Sims 4 is known for, and I'm not surprised Paralives doesn't wish to be seen as its "clone". What I'm saying is, don't write Paralives off completely just yet, just because it gives a "cartoony" impression in the trailers :)

During the last "demo festival" a few weeks ago, I have tried out "Hotel Renovator" and "Monuments Flipper" (not to be confused with "Castle Flipper"). Both look very promising!

Funny, I think it réálly looks cartoony! And, yes also washed out and "minimalistic" which actually bothers me even more I think! But, just for you ;), I still will keep an eye on it!
I also played the demo of Hotel Renovator and not bad, but I for one strongly prefer building/decorating homes, so...

I - honestly - JUST found out about ánother one and I think it has a lot of potential!! Very much like House Flipper, but with a creative mode, co-op, building from scratch, Steam Workshop (from the beginning?) and weather/seasons!!): https://store.steampowered.com/app/1138640/Hometopia/

I've taken a look at Hometopia's Steam page, and the lack of news since October is a bit concerning. Also it's not clear how online co-op is going to work, and it seems to be the only difference between Hometopia and House Flipper. I might add it to my wishlist, but wouldn't get my hopes too high for this one.

Here a link to a (very) recent video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8oeczmSQ98

They are also on Discord with more info and pictures. :)

And no, co-op is not the only difference. There are móre things HT will have that - so far - HF hasn't, but to name two very important ones: Hometopia also offers a creative mode (where you just freely can create a house) and - in line with that - it is possible to build from scratch (or add rooms and such to already existing houses)! These things are requested (and so far without succes) very, VERY often for House Flipper...

You can only edit the interior walls, but if you want to add extensions you have to get creative with the Garden Flipper items as extensions is not officially supported

Hi! I just wanted to let you know that I joined the Hometopia Discord and that I am able to tell you the game is very much alive! :)

Exterior walls cannot be altered and this kind of limits the game. I hope they add the ability to extend the houses and also alter exterior walls. If you could do that then the game really opens up. Some of the houses are just too small for what the customers want.
