All kidding aside... I believe that this is a sort of mix of European & American homes. There is at least one home based off a TV series. I also believe that the Euro, is just the currency that the developers have used since it is what they are 'comfortable' with at this time in the games development. Many are asking for some more localizations of the game as it progresses.

You can change currencies, so the standard being Euro doesn't really tell us much. I agree it seems like a mix of American and European houses.

The majority of the design esthetic available is pretty obviously European. The lack in kitchen options (with most of those options geared towards small kitchens & kitchenettes) is the most telling.

Small fridges are super common in Europe because they typically shop more often. Americans, because our country was on the bigger side and we had plenty of money during the 50's got us used to large kitchens and our large kitchens are accommodating to large refridgerators so we got used to shoping once a week or less rather than shoping every couple of days.

There's also a lot of push towards colors in paint options, but not the tons of off-white and neutral colors typically used in American homes. Also, no white subway tile and none of the subway tile is in its most common pattern.

A lot of the houses are American in style, but very little of the interior design elements seem to have an American esthetic in mind.

Honestly the appliances and the way they're installed is the most telling feature. Radiators? For reals? lol
Wind Lane Dec 19, 2018 @ 11:35am
Radiators are still common on the East coast. Places with older buildings, like in New York, still use them.

But, yeah - very few new installations. And none of these radiators look like traditional American radiators which are cast iron floor units rather than wall mounted.

The radiators look more of European design but most centrally heated houses in the UK have radiators with gas fired boilers feeding the hot water.

The larger houses look more American in design though with most being detached houses rather than the semi detached or terraced houses of Europe. On the other hand, I doubt Americans would live in some of the places they appear to call homes in this game, most Americans would have garages or garden sheds bigger than some of these "houses".

After living in Asia as an Army brat most of my life, any room smaller than 20 feet square I would class as a cupboard. I could never pay the sort of money this game suggests for one of these small "houses", my attitude is that they would have to pay ME to live in it. I would go stir crazy in no time in a place that small. As a result, I have moved around a LOT in my life because you can't get a decent size place to live in the UK unless you pay silly money these days.

Give me a 30 x 30 square microhome and I'd be happy as well, but yeah most Americans no freaking way would they buy most of these. Definitely agree with you on the mix of Euro/American styles and unfortunately the biggest issue with that is the furniture. A lot of the furniture in the game seems more of the over sized American stuff and the houses look more NA style but then you get inside and the rooms are more Euro sized. makes it tricky for trying to decorate the same few houses differently from each other.

I haven't encountered a single socket that's not a NEMA connector, so I'm fairly sure it plays in the US.

Only they're not quite right. It's like they designed the "American" outlets from a verbal description and used the European style plug as the inspiration for how big the prongs should be. They're much smaller - close to half as big.

It'd be like taking apart a European plug and arranging it into the American look.

I think it's more European. To me the big tell besides the radiators is having washing machines mainly in the bathrooms. I've only ever seen them in either the basement (if there is one) or a closet/storage room of some kind. Also, usually Americans who have washing machines also have dryers, which seems to be less common overseas.

For UK houses, the washing machine more often tends to be in the kitchen, usually next to the sink unit, since it's easier in terms of plumbing to link them to the waste outlet and water pipes for the sink. Aslo, it's the same in UK for driers, they are not so common. However, indoor washing lines and airers are quite common in bathrooms or kitchens due to the wet climate.

Sounds like the game is coming from a European perspective to me, just not a Brittish one. I think more of Italy and Scandinavian countries with this stuff.

Just saw a Q&A from the devs, and one of them commented that they were in Poland.

WRONG, it's from Jurassic World perspective.
