A possible solution might be to have these designations clearly listed in the store page or when hover over the furnishings, which would make it much more clear for the players on how or why the room designations change.
Another option is to remove the designations, & allow the players to designate the rooms as they desire. This would then allow players to use any furnishing they desire in any room. Granted not perfect solution.
