How to make a regular basement into a fallout shelter?

You cant, you need a house with dedicated bunker, they are marked with fallout symbol at house selection.

Unless you are trying to sell that particular house to one of the doomsday preppers (which I don't think as they only bid on certain houses), I don't see why you would care that much what the game calls it... I mean, the game keeps insisting that my small office is a 'Psychomanteum' so one shouldn't really care that much.

In one of my houses there was a very small cupboard which you could just about fit a toilet in. For a laugh I put a chair and a light in it - that's all. The game also called in a Psychomanteum - whatever that is. I think I shall look it up.

Apparently it should have a mirror to reflect the darkness so you can commune with the dead. Otherwise a small enclosed space, dim lighting and a chair is all you need.

I've fit in a desk, bookshelf, office chair and a couple of plants on the floor. The room also has a bright ceiling light, desk lamp and paintings but no mirrors so it isn't making much sense to me that the game tells me it's a Psychomanteum

That means that I either have to get rid of the sauna or get a smaller bed, neither of them being something I want to do. I think the size is perfect and I wish I could have a gaming room like that in real life :D
