Paving stone Help or Advise

I am only on the 2nd house (bought). I am trying to use the paving stones to do a driveway and front area or patio. I can't seem to use the correct ones to look correct-like matching the doorways of the garage or the front door. I know I had seen some on the missions and I just don't remember how they were done. Is there a easy way to figure out what size to use & how many? Also, what do I do with the space that is left between them and the front door? If I start them under the front door slightly, they don't come out correctly. I am trying to have this patio flow down the front of the home and around a corner, as there are 3 sliding glass doors that I want the patio in front of also. Is there a guide to doing this?
