SAELIG
Wife died from illness.
I had stocked the house with meds, she still died from illness. Don't they make use of available resources?

I've noticed they only take food. I've had cloaks, meds and such in the house inventory but they never take them. I don't know if that's by design or not, but if I really want my spouse to have something I end up using the 'give item' choice.

They’re definitely designed to take medicine but it also depends on if they’re able to get home to get said medicine. Were they nearby to the house? Sometimes they can get sick far from home and then not make it back in time to actually take any medicine.

@fbitt As for coats, they only take coats in winter and it’s an automatic process to do so and is slated as a priority task once winter hits - they’ve no need for them in any other season though - so when winter is over they’ll put them back in the house. Have you seen them not take coats in winter?

I'm fairly certain they have not, but I don't have a recent save handy showing this behavior. I'll see if I have an older save though and double check. Thanks.

Oh it’s also worth noting in regard to the original post - that it also depends on the medicine. If they have a violent illness and you only have balm that wont be any help.

Not saying that’s what happened, just speculating.

Had both balm and that broth thing that said it would cure violent illness.
Could it be that she had plague? The tooltop says that only god can help. My young wife had that during winter and her 1st pregnancy. For all I remember she didnt take any medicine which wouldnt have helped. I requested her to go and pray some 3 times until she was fortunately cured.

My employees get sick with the plague frequently but none have died yet. For me death has been pretty rare.

But in the winter they're always sick (or breaking bones.) It's a wonder anyone survives. Coats don't seem to be enough to prevent illness, thinking of upgrading their houses with beds for those who I rent to and/or handing out immunity charms. Or maybe opening up my own herbalist hut.

Breaking bones are usually from fighting.

As for the plague, I’ve done a bunch of tweaks in the test build because the ai were exploiting a way to get rid of it which I think I’ve patched.

Costs keep people warm, but not feed or rested. And all three factors contribute to immunity.

Broken bones are usually from fighting each other.

Sick in winter is normal because people who are less immune get sick and spread it around like wildfire. Even someone who is warm and fed, if they’re exposed to enough sick people may also catch it. The cramp work conditions exacerbate this.

I reloaded a save, and solved it by keep tell her to go relax. Which was a pain because she started to leave the house after a short time. Then had to tell her to go relax, rinse and repeat. eventually the illness went away. Maybe sick people should just focus on keep bed until they recover.

Very interesting thank you. As mentioned earlier, then looking in their house for medicine is a priority task if they’re sick. So I wonder what stopped it.

I’ll recreate the situation and see what I find.

I just checked. One unit of the bone broth that was in the house was consumed. But I dont know when it was consumed. I had to like tell her go relax several times.
I have the impression that NPCs often are a bit reckless walking around tired or even limping around with some sickness to have some chat. I wonder whether their social and communication need is perhaps getting the upper hand there.
