SAELIG
Kings Rep?
First off I am amazed your taking the time to answer all these questions, ty Mr. Developer....

What is this Kings Rep I keep getting as the night watch? Will I ever meet the king? What good is this rep? How can it help me?

The more kings rep you have the more chance you have of becoming a Thegn. The Thegns are the final social class and don’t pay tax at all, and are more or less above the law.
Is some of the Kings Standing passed on to heir?
Also I wonder when in the course of a year Thegns are appointed. Is it start of winter as that is start of year?

The title of Thegn is indeed inherited but only some of the Kings Standing is.

It is the start of every new year.

However he won’t appoint anyone if there is no one new to appoint.

Atorcoppe, could you shed a bit more light on the timing and requirements of Thegn appointment? I'm on my second playthrough; in my first one I got Thegn on my first year (I can't remember the exact timing), and now in my second playthrough I'm really trying to attain it early again... but have had very bad luck with the mercenary camp requests so it's come down to the wire.

Anyway, after reading your comment above, I reloaded to the last full day before winter ended and set all my production to gun for the few remaining camp requests. By 10pm I was able to fulfill them enough to push me well over the 4000 reputation that the wiki says is necessary, and I have over 100k net worth... but the new year came and went and no Thegn is appointed. Not sure if there's a bug involved, or if I just did something wrong.

Also, I'm not sure if you intended this, but the "Arwald's Post Storehouse" does not give kings rep when fulfilling requests. Given that it has the same icon and behaves in the same way as the mercenary camp with the whole "requests" interaction, I assumed it would operate in the same way.

Thanks again for the fun game!

Firstly I’ll address the storehouse. This isn’t intended to give kings rep as it isn’t a military camp. It’s actually a man named Arwald who just really likes to buy stuff.

Now for the requirements for Kings Standing -

There are a few requirements:
1) Kings Standing must be greater than or equal to the level set in the config file. 4000 by default.

2) age must be 16 or higher.

3) assets must be higher or equal to the asset requirement set in the config file. 30000 by default.

4) character must not bed dead.

5) character must not be celibate.

6) town faction must be Saxon.

7) family social class must be Geneat or higher.

Out of this list of people that is formed only 2 will be chosen. And the choice will happen as soon as a new year is entered.

There is also a limit to the number of Thegns per map based on population. It is about 1 per 20 people.

5) Must not be celibate means the character must be married I guess.
6) What does town faction must be Saxon mean? The character must be Saxon and a majority of inhabitants?
Also there was a population requirement of 20 in town which is not mentioned in your list. Has that changed?
Edit: When the king chosing 2 from the list is this random or will the 2 with highest standing be chosen?

That means they must not be a monk or something similar.

Faction Saxon means they must not be a Viking.

Yup I forgot that one.

He chooses the two highest.

Thanks for the chat in discord yesterday. For posterity, we figured out that my issue was due to the timing of the new year. I assumed it was at the end of winter, when in fact it occurs at the beginning of winter (when fall transitions to winter)

I made the same wrong assumption when I was new to Saelig. You can see the year at the top centre of the creen left to the hourse
Btw time settings also play a role here. You always start a new game on 1st day of spring.
With 3 days per season you have 9 days to the 1st possibility to be prompted to thegn and 21 days until 2nd change of year. If you play at 30 days per season (max duration) you have to play for a minimum 90 days until you can be promoted.

Crimes usually. And some times during events.
