Tips on burning down a house

I've made two attempts to burn down a competing Alehouse, but the villagers put it out both times. Has anyone been able to do it succesfully and if so, what tactic did you use?

so far everytime i've gone to burn something down its in an attempt to then buy the business, with the mill it lit up a little bit before being put out and they were happy to sell, with the farm/fishery/woodcutter/alehouse they were towering infernos but still seemed to be put out but still all sold, the ale house was put out faster maybe because its in the centre of the town closer to everyone and they also dont want to see their houses burning down, but i havent tried to completely destroy a competing building by fire...........yet

Just try it many times until you do enough damage.

Best time is when everyone but the guards are asleep. Then, there's only the guards to put it out. Be prepared to be a murderer though if it's a house or other living space, which one lady thief found out the hard way not to mess with the Coreleone family's businesses.

I always burn down a building close to it but not too clost to it then run to the alehouse and burn it to the ground push comes to shove I damage it enough to make them put it up for sale and I buy it then fire the workers until I can afford to hire more. But usually buring a house down 2 or 3 houses away will distract them enough to get the house down. Either that or just break into it repeatdly and steal the goods and stockpile them at home until they put the business up for sale.

Light two building a on fire. That way they have to spread their time between putting out more than one and they start deciding based on which owner they like more.

oo now iv done it i set the trading post on fire to much and now its rubble , hope i can stil buy it a fix it :|

i think i killed the guys wife, in a fire that i did, but it nothing was said about it. mess. or a grieving

That's pretty funny. I suspect the owner is rather wealthy, does he own other stuff?

it say he is a "geneat' i guess tat mean he is wealthy and it say he is a business owner. but all i see is the trad post

I just had that happen to me, found a wife, got her pregnant then someone put the house on fire with her in it and killed her. Wonder who did it..

By the way, the competing tavern I set on fire is now unowned, but people still go inside there to drink and eat...

Is it damaged?

Unowned businesses still function and produce goods, but if it is damaged people should not be going in.

Its no longer damaged, perhaps I need to go by again with a torch ;)
