Fan-Translation Instructions
For anyone who would like to translate Detective Butler: Maiden Voyage Murder into another language, we would like to provide the following instructions:
  1. Download the NScripter SDK and NSDec[nscripter.insani.org]
  2. Run NSDec.exe to extract the game's script to a text file
  3. Edit the text file to translate the game (rename this file "0.txt")
  4. Run NSCMake.exe to create a patch (nscript.dat)
We would be happy to review any completed fan-translations and potentially feature them on the Steam store under the corresponding language. Enjoy!

Thanks! Now I'm working on the Chinese version.

Well, there is a problem of character encoding. Because ONScripter uses 'Shift-JIS', my own nscript.dat can't work properly because Chinese uses 'GBK' or 'ANSI' or 'UTF-8' or etc. for character encoding.
I noticed that you use your own 'ONScripter-EN-Steam' project for this game, but it can't work in chinese character encoding as well. Could you solve this problem? It's important for Chinese players.

Firstly, thank you for your interest!

We'll definitely look into it. There is a branch of ONScripter called ONScripter-CN which can supposedly display GBK-encoded Chinese characters. However, there is very little information about it in English, making it hard for us to find a working version (as we have managed to locate at least two versions that, when tested, still did not display the characters properly).

It would be simple to just take this branch of ONScripter and update it with our Steam-related code. So if you are able to find a version of ONScripter-CN that displays Chinese characters correctly, it would make things go very quickly, so please let us know. Otherwise, we'll have to keep looking, or figure out how to do so ourselves, which both could take a very long time.

Thanks ever so much for your reply, I really appreciate it.
I found a branch of ONScripter called ONScripter-GBK(https://github.com/MagicLeo21/ONScripter-GBK). Because I haven't installed the compiler for ONScripter, I haven't tested it yet. I guess it's a good way to solve this problem. Could I ask you to test it?
I look forward to receive your comments.

Good find! I've forked the repository and compiled it here.[github.com] I think the problem is that the text file I've been using to test it is not encoded in GBK, which caused the characters to display as garbage. However, I still cannot figure out a way to save a file encoded in GBK, so you will have to test this for me. If you can verify that it works, we can begin adding in the Steam-related code.

Thanks so much! It works! Congratulations!

There are three more questions:
  1. The size of window isn't 1280*720, altough I can use ";$S1280,720" to solve.
  2. Program can't ignore the character ` .
  3. It seems like that program will ignore the space.
Thanks again for your attention, I really appreciate it.

You're welcome. That's great news!

1. No problem, we will upgrade the window size when we add the Steam features.
2. That should be fine, since there should be no need to use the ` character for Chinese or Japanese text. It is only used for displaying English text.
3. Hmm, I'm not sure what can be done about that.

Once we add the Steam features, we will upload the new build to that repository. It shouldn't take too long, but in the meantime you can get started on the translation. Good luck!
