Well...the graphics are a little different. But other than that, both are set in WW2.
I played both series and like all of them, except Blitzkrieg 3, it's just rubbish.
A few main differences would be :
-- Blitzkrieg probably allows some carryover of troops as core troops from mission to mission, trying to emulate the Panzer General concept of a campaign.
-- Blitzkrieg has slightly different rules for the Sniper, the Officer, Scouting, and how viewing of different terrain levels works.
How practical are the differences? Not a lot. Otherwise it is very, very similar, probably even made by the same group, probably same engine.
Now, Blitzkrieg 2 might have gone to 3D models instead of sprites -- check the description on it. If so, probably higher resolutions beyond 1024 are available.
That's off the top of my head.
-- Oh Blitzkrieg series, maybe only starting with 2, probably have certain addition of player made maps, perhaps some modified units, and modding in general might be easier for players to do. Maybe. You'll have to read discussions to find out more for certain.
Best I can recall for now. Quick answer from old dude only, so watch your back. :) Senility may be creeping in.
No not really. I would say Sudden Strike is way more tactical and the games operate on a way bigger scale. You feel more like a general sometimes than a commander. Alos Sudden Strike runs much smoother and more fluent than Blitzkrieg. I played both and would recommend Sudden Strike over Blitzkrieg.
1. SS is for the more hardcore WW2 strategy fan. It's much harder. You may have a lot of troops but enemy has the same or better and rushing is out of the question. You have to micro a lot , maps are huge and it takes much longer time to move troops , strategize and win missions
2. Battles on a larger scale. SS> BK
3. Graphis BK>SS
4. Realism SS > BK.
I can confirm this. Sudden Strike overall better than Blitzkrieg. I love Sudden Strike Foreve most.
