Please help me play this game
Alright, Ill be blunt, I played 60 minutes and it was the worst experience I had in a game, in general, and specially in VR so far, since I bought a VR headset weeks ago. I always wanted to play skyrim, but those ♥♥♥♥♥♥ clunky controls and the 2000+ mods that everyone says the game needs to be decent kept me very far away, so now that I have a VR headset I thought, it's the time! in VR the gameplay should at least be decent compared to that clunky gameplay on mouse and keyboard.... holy moly couldn't I be any more WRONG. So for the love of god, can someone please give me the least amount of mods needed to make this game playable. I'm looking specially for things that make the sword combat better (why does my swords always point to the same direction instead of following my headset movement like any other game? And why does it feel that I'm holding them by kninectic magic instead of them being in my hands?), magic, archery, combat in general and the menus better. I'm not a graphics person I can withstand these ♥♥♥♥♥♥ graphics just fine, as long as it runs smooth I'm all for it. I really want to play the game seriously. If I got hooked after I make it playable, then I can think of installing the other 1900 missing mods that improve the experience

yeah like niko said, either download FUS or grab HIGGS (weapon holsters) VRIK, Spell Wheel VR and PLANCK
i myself use FUS with a few added mods to it and its great. probably the best Skyrim VR modlist that exists

This game is awful in VR. I've given up so many times and went back to SE. The controls are so bad. This is a great example of how simply porting a game that was never meant for VR into VR doesn't work, no matter how many mods you have. I feel absolutely handicapped compared to the flat version. There's no way in hell I could last more than 10 hours in this.

The controls in skyrim vr and fo4 vr are pretty bad. Fo4 is even worse especially if you get into the settlement building.

However, if you can find a custom binding that is usable you can eventually get used to it. The first few hours can be frustrating but once you get the hang of it its not bad.

I have to play it a bit different than flatscreen though. I find the menus rather annoying in VR and try to avoid using them as much as possible.

I play using vrik gestures for spells/powers/potions and holsters for weapons. I don't loot alot of items so I have less inventory to deal with. Also, I tend toward low magic builds as I don't have to remember too many gestures.

Crafting, especially enchanting and alchemy are a PITA in VR. Smithing isn't too bad especially if you don't focus on it.

It takes some getting used to and I've found I have to play it a bit different than flatscreen. However, once it is setup and working good it is a unique VR game. There really isn't anything else like it.
I would absolutely agree that you'd want mods to play the game at its best but you don't need a 2000+ mod list to do it.

As others have mentioned FUS via the wabbajack mod pack client is more than enough to get more out of the experience while not being ridiculous with it. Notably it includes mods that make the VR experience more complete and enjoyable. Stuff that lets you interact, loot, choose abilities etc in a way that makes VR more immersive and logical.

FUS is like 400 or so ish mods and you can even use less in some cases if you don't feel you want them. Its very VERY easy to customize. Theres even Youtube videos to explain how to do it step by step. Its basically plug and play. The only caveat is that you'd want a month subscription to the Nexus to properly download them.

I have Lorerim on flat screen Skyrim and its 4000+ mods and I'd still rather play this. Skyrim VR with the right mods is Skyrim at its best.
