You assume correct, the menue should be operable with joystick left/right or up/down and making choices with the trigger.
looting a body should be , holding your right hand close to the corpse and pressing the right "grip" key. Wich is the button you press if you tighten your hands.
this should open a loot window.
if you use the "drop on death" mod, then a killed NPC drops all inventory to the floor for you to pick up and loot by either:
Vanilla option: hold hand to stuff and right grip.
HIGGS option: take it and drop it over your shoulder, Half Life Alyx style.
It must work with the index controllers.
Also a warning:
The horse cart sequence that comes at the start, will not work (or make huge problems), while VRIK is active. And also if the refreshrate is not 90Hz.
Thats why most people use an alternative start mod for making new characters like "Realm of Lorkhan" for example.
Also interesting:
VR menue mouse fix: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/33414
it gives you a mouse cursor that can be operated like a laser pointer from your controller.

Hmm. I have Valve Index too, and the default control for looting was A button on right hand. B was for the favorites menu.
> The horse cart sequence that comes at the start, will not work (or make huge problems), while VRIK is active. And also if the refreshrate is not 90Hz.
I had 120Hz and it was effin hilarious even in vanilla. That cart was glitching like there's no tomorrow and ended up killing the horse, which was its only anchor to the surface of the planet. After the horse is dead the cart goes berserk and flies off into orbit
Yeah that might be the vanilla (no mods) one.
With vanilla I mean, if you loot without HIGGS/drop on death (for people that want to minimize the usage of menues and windows as much as possible).
But he said he uses the "VRIK Index Controller Bindings V2.1.0" (like myself and possibly a lot of people. It was done by the modding community after most people agreed that the Index controlle mapping is horrible.
I actually never tried the vanilla Index mapping.
I started playing the game with Vive wands in 2018 and when I switched to an Index I installed these controller mappings before I ever tried the Index with vanilla mappings.
Thats the Index controller mapping if one uses these renewed bindings:
Its installed like this:
1. Install VRIK
https://www.nexusmods.com/Core/Libs/Common/Widgets/ModRequirementsPopUp?id=211578&game_id=1704
2. Install RIFT, Index, WMR contoller bindings mod
https://www.nexusmods.com/Core/Libs/Common/Widgets/ModRequirementsPopUp?id=118293&game_id=1704
Index only needs additional to this:
Re: the horse cart intro: I do have a lot of Skyrim modding experience so I fully expected the intro sequence to be glitchy AF, I didn't think anything about it apart from being mildly annoyed at myself for forgetting to install the Live Another Life mod :D
Re: the vr menu mouse fix: Wow, this looks great (if I get it to work). Another example of an essential feature which was added by the modding community in lieu of Bethesda...
Re: starting over: I guess this is my best option, yes. But how do I "factory-reset" my game? Is it sufficient to delete the local game data?
Re: your suggested bindings: Are those the ones that I get if I select the VRIK Index Bindings V2.1.0 in Steam's Skyrim VR settings?
1. uninstall
2. delete all folders of the game wich include:
- the games actual folder if still there
- in SkyrimVR folder in documents/mygames/skyrimVR
the bindings I copy/pasted are the bindings of VRIK Index Bindings V2.1.0 in Steam's Skyrim VR settings, yes.
But do not forget the mod for it aswell.
have you installed Mage VR mod? that mod was getting my index controllers useless, unnistalling it solved the problem.
yes its actually installed, i use a modpack and that have it. Im gonna try it out, thanx
yeah i do that all the time, but i still have that problem. Im able to make things work by deleting ini files from skyrim vr but the problem keep on coming back... so only way for me to play right now is to delete those files and create new game over and over again.
oh, i´ll try that. Thanx for the tip
