Put stat points into mana and talent points into your preferred schools of magic.
I forgot to mention..this is actually my first time playing skyrim..so I dont know any school of magic out there LMAO.
Skyrim basics:
Your character learns by doing.
If you hit someone with a 1h sword you gain 1 handed weapon skill
If you cast a spell at someone you gain skill in that magic school ( skill )
Magic Schools are:
Alteration
Conjuration
Destruction
Illusion
Restoration
Destruction is your DPS skill, Restoration is healing, Conjuration summons beasties from other planes of existence to do your fighting.
When you have gained 5 levels in any combination of skills you will level up. At this point you get a perk point to spend in a skill tree of your choice and you may choose a stat to increase stamina , health, magicka
Perks give you bonuses to the skills you use such as lower resource cost or higher damage or extra effects.
You don't have to stick to any specific build to play skyrim there are no classes as such
you could learn heavy armor, 1 hand and conjuration to be a battle mage who uses summoned weapons and creatures to fight.
you could be a pure mage who just wields the elements ( frost fire and lightning )
Just be aware that flining spells is NOT stealthy so maybe don't try a mage sneak build off the bat.
Other skills to look at are enchanting, smithing ( if you decided to go armoured mage ) and alchemy for potion making - in fact these utility skills are a part of many builds.
Perhaps you might as a new beginner choose
High Elf ( for racial magic abilities )
Destruction
Restoration
Light Armor
Enchanting
Smithing
Alchemy
As your main focus skills. You could enchant light armour with the same ablities as the mage robes for better protection. Don't forget though that you can always have a companion to tank for you.
If you want to add spells to a more familiar style of play try
1 handed weapons
Conjurations ( conjured weapons and beasts )
Heavy Armor
Restoration
Smithing
Enchanting
These are not limits though, you can eventually get all perks and all skills to 100 ( though that will take a long time )
enchanted items are made using soul gems which have been filled with the souls of creatures ( and sometimes humans ) there are various levels of soul gem but to start with you will only be using petty, lesser and common soul gems.
you use a weapon enchanted with soul trap, or the spell soul trap on a creature to capture it's soul as it dies.
- collect and or buy iron ore and ingots. hunt or buy leather to make leather strips. make iron daggers ( levels up smithing ) enchant the daggers with whatever enchantment gives the highest monetary value to the dagger. sell the daggers to buy more crafting materials and empty soul gems.

It will make sense as you play so get right in there and have some fun :)
Likewise, you're never required to sneak or pick high level locks so those skills aren't required. If you don't want to swing a sword at all or shoot a bow, those skills aren't required.
I hope you're catching on to the biggest hook and the biggest weakness of the open world adventure:
You can literally pour your build into mana and Destruction and be fine for the entire game. You're not required to branch out your skills at all. You actually can't make a wrong build, you just make the game marginally more difficult which can be adjusted at any time.
Ideally, sprinkle some health in for balance. Read over the talent trees and aim for stuff higher up. Have fun with it. This is a very easy and forgiving game.
When enchanting is at a decent level, you can enchant ring, amulet, chest and gloves(?) with fortify X spell school, giving up to 25% mana reduction on each piece before any potions or +enchanting gear (of which there are a few, but it won't do much). When you start to have decent reductions to the spell schools you want to focus on, you can level them really fast, and magic starts to become fun. With 100% reduction to Alteration for example, you can level that particular school from 15-100 in 1 telekinesis spell (fast travel while holding an item with the spell).
But it's a bit of a grind to get there. Unless you abuse alchemy, in which case you can get it done fast. I've never done that, as I feel it completely breaks the game (like giving +1 000 000 % damage bonus to Destruction).
