Random 20 - 30 secs Freezes (Rift)
EDIT: In my case the mod "DiverseDragonsCollection" was the culprit. Deleting it and cleaning my savegame from its entries with this tool: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/5031/?tab=files
fixed the problem. (guide in marked answer)

Original post:

Anyone else experiencing this? Played the game just fine for around 20 hours, then yesterday it started to freeze for 20-30 seconds (headset shows SteamVR loading animation and game on monitor freezes) then it went back to normal for a minute or less before it started freezing again.

I didn't add/remove mods. I have verified file integrity for both SteamVR and SkyrimVR. Both were fine.

Anyone else with this problem (and may be a fix)?

Best of luck. I was losing my mind trying to figure this out.
On the first day I thought it was just a straight-up CTD but after the 30th time I just sat staring into the HMD in disbelief that my 80 hours were up the spout... Then after it sprung back into life, I realised that it was "only" a freeze-up problem and was probably save/script related.

Hope this helps.

Yes but not in the same manner. Mine will freeze every time when I fire 2 arrows back to back. I did mod mine though and have since tried disabling everything and reverting back to old saves. Im still screwed though and it did not start until this latest patch. I wish I could roll back!

Very frustrating, I'm with you. I started another new game and this time it seems to work. I'm also going the archer route, no crash whatsoever. I'm honestly missing my mage, but it still crashes randomly after a few seconds when loading these savegames.

Let's wait for another SteamVR update, maybe our savegames will work again one day...

As a note I tried using Fallrim tools to debug my save game, unfortunately that did not work at all. You may want to give it a try though. It will be really hard for me to go back now I was over 20 hours in on that game...

Thanks for the suggestion, I tried that too, with no success. A lot of entries were fixed, but that didn't fix the freezing problem.

I also opened the windows(10) task manager to try to see if anything suspicious happens there while Skyrim freezes. The only thing that happens in the Performance tab is the GPU going into idle mode AND SteamVR doesn't respond as if there was no HMD and Controller attached.

@Ab$olut I realized that the freezes last for about 20 - 30 seconds and then the game proceeds until the next freeze. Is this also the case for you?

Took me 4 days, 5 re-installations, 3 tries at each mod manager (NMM>MO2>Vortex) to finally get this on figured out!

1. Delete Acquisitive Soul Gems Mod ( Might not be this one but I did anyway)
2. Delete Diverse Dragons Mod.
3. Use Fallrim's Tool to clean ALL mentions of above mods (use search before purging)
4. Rejoice at the freezing being fixed!

I was 80 hours into my game when this started behaving badly and freezing up for 45-60 seconds.

Diverse Dragons was installed way back at the start of my game and didn't cause any issues until the 80-hour mark...

I'm also using this mod. At a moment's notice this started to happen after the last SteamVR update. It would be confusing if this would fix it, but I'll try it anyway. Thanks for chiming in!

I had over 1000 script instances from Diverse Dragons in my save. If I just deleted the mod, my saves would not load at all. Cleaning this from the save has completely cured my problems with freezing. I was determined to get it sorted but after many days trying, was starting to lose hope.
This 100% fixed all the freezing up.

Report back on your success? Good luck.

I'm experiencing the same problem, definitely giving this a try. How do I go about using Fallrim to clean the save and or Diverse Dragons and Acquisitive soul gems mods.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

You mean NMM(Nexus Mod Manager)? As long as you're updating the plugin.txt by whatever method you currently use then all will be well. You need to remove the .esp files so the game is no longer trying to load the associated mod.

@carslawx I followed your guide, thanks for that! Though in Re-Saver I can't get rid of 3 Global Variable entries (NAME MISSING etc.) and the esp entry under Plugins, not by "Kill Listed" nor by right clicking deleting. Do I have to ignore that?
