I played Skyrim with the Touch controllers and they are perfect. Shooting with the bow like Legolas in Lord of the Rings^^
Mage is also cool when you can cast your magic, only melee fight is bad in Skyrim VR.
For me is the Rift S very good, but i can´t say anything about the HTC Vive, I never use it.
i tried Fallout 4 also in VR, but only a few hours - it´s cool but i like Skyrim VR much more (over 100 hours playtime now).
skyrimvr is worth it's pricetag, but cheaper is clearly better
If FO4VR goes that low I`ll defo buy it. Pity it comes with no DLCs.
As for the HMDs. I had the Vive. Was VERY disappointed. It was like being in a short-sighted dream and upping the SS only made it slightly better (at a cost of performance). I got the Rift S and it is SO much better. The Vive is 2 years old gen now. Get the Rift S.
EDIT: Just checked FO4VR that is now down to £10!! even cheaper than Skyrim. this is a must buy for me, though I won`t play it until i`m done with Skyrim. Will give me plenty of time to research mods for it as I know it`s a buggy mess.
Alright my honest opinion.
1. Lighter on the head and in hands, Can use for longer.
2. No sattelites as it uses `inside-out` tracking which is really quite nice and convenient. Works better than you`d think.
3. The controllers are easier to hold. Lighter.
4. The rays are gone.
5. bigger `sweet spot`.
6. Easy to use with specs.
7. The increased Resolution -The main win for me.
Disadvantages:
1. The hmd and controllers feel less well constructed, not as hard wearing. I worry about hitting anything with a controller by accident.
2. The `in-out` tracking can lose tracking in very bright sunlight and when it get very dark. It can also go a little squirrelly if you put your hands behind your back for too long.
3. Sound is crap. i use my own headphones.
4. Software PD adjustment.
5. Can be annoying to set up each session right now. I have to swap USBs until it `takes`. But they`re still pushing software updates which solved a lot of previous issues.
1. Much sturdier feel to hmd and controllers. I actually hit the wall hard with a controller and it shook it off, no problem!
2. Satellites guarantee almost no tracking issues. Also will work in complete darkness.
3. Manual PD adjustment.
4. Once set up, it won`t need resetting up until you move.
Disadvantages:
1. Resolution is much lower (old gen VR now). I would not advise it today. Most important issue for me.
2. You have to set up satellites, can be a hassle with wires about and needing sockets.
3. Controller handling felt awkward and too big for long use. HMD felt heavier.
4. Smaller sweet spot.
5. Difficult to get positioned with specs.
6, You get a light ray effect on the lenses sometimes which can be distracting.
The FOV felt the same on both to me but not measured.
But most of all it was the low res visuals of the Vive which really disappointed me compared to the rave reviews of it.. Like I said visuals mattered to me, what I can see. Perhaps it`s because I deal in graphics why it bothered me more than some.
