A cosmetic mod recommendation for VR... Static Mesh Improvement Mod - SMIM
I don`t normally do this, but when I find something good for VR in a big way, I like to let others know...

I don`t normally use cosmetic mods, but in Vr I got increasingly annoyed by little things such as ropes which clearly aren`t ropes, but flat textures, chainlinks on gates that are just flat textures, etc. I wanted better, but was also petriefied of the framerate hit, especially in VR.

Then I came across Static Mesh Improvement Mod - SMIM.

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/659?tab=posts&BH=5

I read the details, watched careful, weighed the pros and cons, saw that it was also well optimised, so gave it a go. Risky.

Immediately I saw the difference. ropes wrap around things, wood beams look better. everything has a clearer, crisper look to it and actually looks like it`s `there`.

Most of all the framerate APPEARED much better. The game was smoother, no stutters so far. Now I haven`t measures the FPS by the numbers but it was much, much better.

I would recommend this for any VR game.

Don`t forget SKSEVR.

my only concern because i run it too is did it change the meshes for stairs and bridges away from VR friendly ones. or were they always "jumpy"?

i'm sure before i ran smim stuff was more ramplike. i never pursued it because it doesn't bother me that much apart from my vision jumping up and down ascending stairs.

I hadn`t noticed. I will go back and look again.

Another must IMO is ELFX+ ELE. Or at least use Relighting Skyrim. Obsidian Weathers ... DyndoLOD ... it needs lots of work lol
i stopped using elfx because it made candlelight and magelight lights into this weird half bright half dark brain hurting experience. i'd be fine with darker dungeons on principle if that solution to that wasn't such a messed up light source
