To those who own both: This or Fallout 4 VR?
Hello all,

Built a new rig this year (3080 FE, 3600X cpu, EVO SSD etc.) and got a Quest 2 a couple weeks ago. Most VR games are either sucky or overpriced and disappointing but I think the technology and some mechanics are really great and has a lot of potential so I figured I'd try it out on some of my favorite games: Fallout 4 or Skyrim

However, with a hefty entrance fee for games that I already own and have played through multiple times (mostly on console), I am hesitant as to which one is the right purchase. Skyrim apparently was a better port and has way more mods, but I am a little more interested in shooting in VR rather than melee.

My question is mainly: Which one do you prefer and why?

Some other questions are:

1. How are the combat mechanics for both? Which do you prefer in Vanilla, and which benefits more from mods? Whats you favorite weapon choices (two handed, archery, sword and shield, magic, etc). With mods, can archery feel as good as other VR Archery experiences (Steam's The Lab has a fun archery minigame that has plenty good mechanics for myself).

2. What is the best part of experiencing Skyrim (or Fallout if you have played it) in VR vs. traditional flatscreen mode (with mods in mind)?

3. Is it fun doing a full blown playthrough or do you prefer to just mess around?

4. Which game setting benefits better from VR? Post apocalyptic shooter or Fantasy Sword and shield?

Any other thoughts about your VR experience with either game, specific mods and how much they impact your enjoyment, or other suggestions please do share

Thanks, sorry if this could be better posted elsewhere; the Fallout 4 VR community hub seems largely dead in comparison which may be telling

The Fallout 4 VR gameplay is better: shooting is much more fun in VR than the broken Skyrim VR melee system. But I still prefer Skyrim VR because of the mods.

yeah fallout4 is a hot mess of a port. the only way ive ever made it run stable was at 60hz mode. Shooting in VR translates alot better then swing swords, fallouts action is alot more engaging. That being said skryrim really shines when your not doing mission when your just bumming about town or doing non combat type quests. Just my personal take.

Skyrim is better simply because it has mods that completely transform the experience. If fallout 4 had similar mods, it would be over and fallout 4 would take the cake from all VR games.

As generic an answer as it is, it depends. Both are pretty good. If you feel like fighting with swords and magic, go with Skyrim VR. If you wanna fight with guns and lasers, get Fallout 4 VR. Personally, I feel as though Fallout 4 VR has a lot more variety in gameplay, but Skyrim VR is good for beinga lot less intense and casual.

So yeah, both are good. I suggest getting both if you can.

Fallout 4 VR with the wabbajack modlist... and then throwing Whisper Hills on top is one of the most immersive experiences ive had... and further, one of the scariest. Legitimately the best horror / survival experience ive ever had and the silent hill theme works so well with fallout4.

Could not reccomend the above highly enough.
That said, skyrim VR with a wabbajack mod list is good too... It just doesnt compare to F4VR essentials + Whispering Hills.

If anyone does try what i mentioned, please tell me what you think :)
