Any mods that fix melee combat?
Been playing SkyrimVR for a while now and loving it. I have all the essential mods like VRIK and the Skyrim 2017 texture overhaul. Melee is still crap though. They fixed the 'Flick wrist until they fall' ♥♥♥♥ a while ago but melee is so underpowered. I've almost completely maxed out my one-handed tree while barely upgrading my archery tree yet the archery does more damage than melee by a massive shot. Anyone know any balancing mods to remedy this?

Depense on what you are looking for.
There are a lot good combat mods that do a lot of things
I use Wildcat and it works well with the VR version.
It changes stuff like damage so it doesnt take 10 hits with a sword to kill a mudcrag and adds injuries but the mud crap might 2 hit you as well ;)

A small review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQpx4IwN0Yw

But i still recommend to go on the nexus and or watch some combat mods reviews so you get exactly what you are looking for.

Definitely go with Wildcat as Fivecorr suggested, Enai the creator is one the most skilled and respected modders in the Skyrim community, his mods are "vanilla friendly" (don't alter the core concept of the game) and became almost a standard.

Seems interesting but I don't think its what im looking for. The whole limb system thing sound annoying, especially in VR. I'm just looking for a weapon rebalance that atleast buffs swords to make them more viable since melee isn't really useful in VR at all.

I agree, not a fan of that feature myself too, however you can toggle it off, it's a very modular mod, you can tweak pretty much everything as well. There are a few things it does more like time blocking and attack of opportunity, it also improves the AI. That paired with the perk mod of the same author is amazing, I'd suggest you to give it a go on an a throwaway save file, it's very script light, you can drop it in and out without affecting your game.

Dumb question, I know. But, do you hold the trigger before swinging so you can power-hit?

That's a totally legit question my man, you can set a button for it, I use the trigger on the Rift S, IIRC is the same in Vanilla. I forgot to mention in my last comment that I'm using Smilodon which is basically a lighter version of the mod from the same author, but should be the same control wise.

Yes. In vanilla pancake skyrim you tap the mouse to swing quickly with no stamina hit - but it doesn't do much damage. If you HOLD the mouse button you really wind up and do alotta damage, but it takes stamina away.

Further, if you hold the button and A or D at the same time you will disarm an opponent if you hit them in the arm. If you hold W you'll do either an overhead two-handed swing or a running hit, and if you hold S you'll do an "uppercut" that has a chance to paralyse on hit - provided you hit them in the head.

This all works in VR as well but you simply swing side to side or floor to ceiliing or whatever while holding the trigger to power up.

If you're just swinging none of the special stuff like disarm applies.

Used it, did nothing. Power attacks do little extra damage. Usually i'm trying to use a shield to block some damage so it doesn't help. Swords still feel very underpowered.

Also I don't mean just swords with this. All one-handed weapons feel underpowered even with "Power attacks".

Wildcat and Smilodon make the combat much much better (not only in melee), especially combined with Ordinator, the perk mod from the same author; however melee combat in Skyrim VR feels a bit weird as it lack weight so to speak, they also add timed blocking and attacks of opportunity which make the gameplay more dynamic, the AI will use them as well; while is still largely an Action RPG gameplay I feel it makes player's skills matter, as your timing and movements are as important as the skill you level up, if you don't fight well even lower level enemies could be a problem.

Sorry for necro but I believe "Pseudo Physical Weapon Collision and Parry AE SE VR" is what you're looking for. It makes it so you can parry enemies' attacks (melee, ranges, and magic) with your own melee weapons or with shields.
