Archery is awesome in VR, but honestly if you already know you don't like Skyrim I can't see the point in you trying it. It's still Skyrim.
So about COMBAT, lol, not nude mods......
It is both better and worse than I was expecting. Using Vive controllers here. I love melee combat in VR like Sairento and Tales of Glory, so Skyrim is being measured against those melee heavy games.
The problems:
-The hitboxes are at the moment way too big in melee, so it feels disjointed and you can hit things from several feet away. This is the worst problem, imo.
-You can easily cheese melee by flailing your arms around. Combined with the above, you can basically sit back and spam your swings for most melee fights....You don't HAVE to, so it's more of a user decision, but, the way the system works, you can....
- I am used to Tales of Glory which imo has much better melee combat designed for VR. By compartison, Skyrim's seems really basic and VR-ported.
-2 handed weapons are controlled one handed
-Using the shield / off hand can impact your ability to move while in combat - i.e. with shield raised to block an arrow, you cannot continue to run forward as the direction of movement is tied to your controller orientation. Same goes if you are wanting to dual wield and swing your offhand while moving, you'll step in the direction you swing. So, if you raise your hand for an overhand, you will step backwards. pssssssh....
-You still need to menu interface to equip or change weapons or gear, which is disruptive during combat
-In general, you are a lot less mobile (imo) than in desktop due to the way the controls work. For example, I have a really hard time jumping with any regularly, much less while in combat. In desktop mode, I can jump around like Errol Flynn to gain the advantage or escape, but in VR, that's not gonna be an option.
The good:
-Let's start with maybe the best feature. Swings are not tied to an animation, so you can basically swing, stab, bash however you want. Thus, there is more kinetic and RP impact to your melee as opposed to just clicking a button and watching an animation. For me, this is maybe the biggest positive, but one that also exists in most VR melee games.
-Taking down flying dragons is pretty epic.
-Despite the jankyness and ported to VR feelings and mechanics, the combat is pretty fun, especially when you are dealing with more than one enemy.
-If you are willing to not cheese the system, and try to actually land proper blocks and swings, it's somewhat satisfying.
Overall, it's a port to VR, so doesn't take advantage of some of the strengths of VR, like having weapons attached to your belt or back. It's a shame and a loss because it could have added a lot to the combat. Visually, combat is fun, albeit a bit slow and predictable (telegraph your swings much?). If you can get past the hitboxes not being scaled properly, you might enjoy..
I haven't really tried spells, as despite my love of magic, spells seem kinda, well boring. Point, hold trigger, profit. Right now, I am enjoying the more kinetic experience of melee and archery.
I am having fun and enjoying the melee, but it's kinda janky, seems really easy, and feels like a port.
I hope that helps.
No?
You can't use the script extender, but ESPs and ESMs work fine.
