Bow orientation
Just got out of bleak falls barrow, Skyrim VR is pretty great so far! I have a quick question though.

The bow is sort of off by like six inches, like i'm holding it only a third of the way up, and it needs to be oriented more like 60 degrees closer to me, like i have to rotate my arm too much to use it. I'm on WMR. Is there a setting for this?

thanks

Using the VR config tool on the nexus or editing the ini file directly you should be able to edit the fBowRotationYaw/Pitch/Roll values under VRWand to rotate the bow. Though I haven't found anything to change the position.

There's also fArrowHoldOffsetY that's set to 5.3340 by default that might do something.

ok thanks, which ini file is it?

I've just been using the tool which finds them automatically and is easier to use while in VR through virtual desktop, but I believe these can be put in SkyrimVR.ini. It's found in C:\Users\YourUserName\Documents\My Games\Skyrim VR. If it's not there just create it.

Add fBowRotationPitch below [VRWand] and set it equal to the desired angle. I get ok results with -10 but it may not be perfect.

so

[VRWand]
fBowRotationPitch=-10

Try enabling realistic archery in the VR settings if you haven't yet? The arrow hand is off by a bit to account for the headset being in the way when you aim correctly.

i tried it for awhile both with and without realistic aiming and the issue persists. It's kind of hard to tell what realistic aiming does. Does it prevent you from aiming down the arrow?

It allows you to aim with both hands.. Instead of locked to one in normal mode. Give it a few days or hours someone might find a setting.ini adjustment for it. But rember if you shoot a bow realistically like RW way, your headset is in the way.

I had to bend my bow hand towards me by about 15 or 20 degrees to get it straight the bow straight in-game. It was very uncomfortable, and painful after a few shots. I'm using a Vive. I tried both archery settings, and they both were hell on my wrist.

Would not recommend archery.

Hmm, I definitely noticed the issue you described when it was disabled. The better control with 2 hands might have blinded me to how the bow hand might be off. I'm not that familiar with the Odyssey controllers/tracking if that's what you're using, I'm on Vive.

The difference between the 2 settings is that when it's disabled the arrow hand doesn't affect the direction the bow is aiming, just the string. When it's enabled you can move both hands and the bow/arrow will align with them accordingly.

That mode might have issues if one of the controllers is occluded or leaves the tracking space.

Edit: Ah, yeah the bow seems to be higher than it should be on both controllers.

yeah this is my issue basically, bow is kind of offset like you are holding it only a third of the way up, and you have to rotate it too far towards you.

change height in the settings fixed it for me.

Hmmm interesting.. That for your character height. Go up or down to adjust for how far its up. Gotta try it.

A brute force fix would be to install OpenVR-InputEmulator which will let you rotate and move the in-game controllers to align them the way you want to and save it as a profile. To switch between them you just open the SteamVR menu and choose from a drop down menu whenever you go from bow to another weapon.

Of course that's annoying, so maybe there's an ini setting for it since Fallout had some VR specific settings.

If the bow still feels off by an angle there are some VR specific ini settings that can help.

Height dosent change the draw hand anchor position but holding the controller (Draw hand) to the left palm down when having the bow tilted does help.
