Enable advanced supersampling filter on or off? TAA questions also
I've been plating around with these two settings. TAA makes distant objects a little too blurry for my taste, but with it off, there is a little too much aliasing and shimmering for my liking. However, it is so much clearer. IS there something I can do to meet in the middle. I'm wary about changing things in the ini unless I know a specific value I could use. Any suggestions for what will work?

Ive also tried unchecking "enable advanced supersampling filter" and couldn't tell what difference it made. Should that be on or off?

Finally, does disabling advanced supersampling filter actually disable supersampling altogether (hope not) or does it only mean a certain filter?

For some reason, editing the TAA values in the INI doesn't affect the in-game settings.

The only way to tweak it, is by opening the console and typing:

taa hf 0.6

the default value is 0.8000 so try experimenting to suit your balance of blur vs shimmer. 0.6 is where I have it

The really annoying thing is that this doesn't stick, so you have to input the console entry on each time you play. I actually have it set to a voice command using Dragonborn Speaks Naturally mod...

Advanced Super Sampling Filter is an additional smoothing technique ( I think) and doesn't turn off the SS multiplier. They should call it something else as it does sound like a on/off function.

Be sure to turn off Dynamic Resolution in-game.

If you're using Nvidia GPU, turn Anisitrophic Filtering to x8 or x16 from the Nvidia control panel.

Every little helps so I take all the marginal improvements I can find.

I turned off the Advanced Supersampling Filter because it only seemed to degrade performance on my previous computer without adding any noticeable visual improvement. YMMV

For a while I tried different TAA settings, and had an ENB in there that sharpened things up considerably, albeit still with a little bit of shimmer. I recently decided to run it off altogether because the shimmer I see around foliage and such doesn't make me feel nauseous anymore, and disabling the TAA seemed to help a lot with eliminating micro-stutter (as did lowering supersampling a bit). This game engine is what it is, and IMO having more clarity ultimately trumps perceived smoothness (for me, anyway). It would be nice if the engine had better antialiasing options, but I can live without them. I have a feeling the aliasing will eventually not be noticeable anyway once we get a headset with a high enough resolution.

Turning off taa and dynamic res while jacking up ss made a huge difference for me. I leave advanced supsampling on, but may try it off later. Combined with a few graphic mods the game looks spectacular. I barely even notice the SCE on an ordinary Vive.

Turn off has. Enable as 1.2 and use enb fxaa. Now it's all good
