Manual mod installation possible?
I have sunk hundreds of hours into original Skyrim, possibly over a thousand, and that is the one I still have installed, it is not Skyrim SE, because of some mods I liked so much that I would miss them in SE. So I stayed with the original Skyrim.

Now in VR, I tried the reddit thread and that famous video and tips and readings in comments of how to install mods via Nexus mod manager. It fails due to missing SE files, it seems, and the rare and apparently uncomplete suggestions on how to install a mod manually did not work for me.

I do not want to make it complicated. I want Amazing Follower Tweaks AFt, Coats of Skyrim, Darker Nights and Lanterns of Skyrim installed, and thats it. Maybe some mod removing the dragons, if that exists for Skyrim SE/VR. Not more. And I am tired of messing around with Nexus Mod Manager, please do not tell me how convenient it works and what I can do with it. Its not part of my question. Its not my interest.

I would appreciate a complete list of instructions, or a link to it, how to manually install the above mentioned few mods, so that it works. I already downloaded them, in the SE-compatible versions where I had the choice. Where do I have to store what folder content, what ini/txt files do i have to manually create, what lines do I need to add into them, and where do I need to place them?

If it is possible to manually install mods, these would be my questions. Or a clear confirmation that manual mod installation in Skyrim VR is not possible.

Thank you.

P.S. And if it is possible to install mods manually, does anyone know if Sutvaka Castle is functional in VR? It is not listed in Skyrim SE mod pool. Its my preferred home.

I wrote a mini guide in this thread.
Hope it helps.

Hm, I had all that, also the simple manual installation mentioned in it. Nothing worked as described. The referred-to links I also had.

Same. Every tutorial about manually modding Skyrim VR is missing something or is wrong and you need to go through 1000s of comments to find the fix...which is usually not there. 😉

Download Vortex

Download mods
https://www.nexusmods.com/

Drag mods to the Vortex program, that's it. It will load them and check them for compatibility.

Vortex really is the easiest method.

Absolutely Vortex. Seamless and automatic.

Thanks guys. Vortex seems to be doing a good job indeed. I like it even better than NMM.
Ok, it's not manual modding but at least I can get some actual play time now. XD
Just sucks that the 2 mods I NEED TO WORK are not working ;(

MK9 Mileena Playermodel (can give to follower)
MKX Mileena Follower and Armor

I can add the items through console but when I hover over it in inventory...the game CTD.
Also when just having one these 2 enabled and entering The Bannered Mare...CTD

If anyone...has one of these 2 working in VR...please tell me how you've managed that, haha.

Thanks again fellas!!

My guide here is outdated... Vortex is the way to go for the easiest route to mods, MO2 is advised for more advanced users who are looking to go big.
I use Vortex myself now as I quite like the UI compared to MO2.
