loot not detecting skyrim vr
I have the original skyrim and skyrim se but when I got skyrim vr I decided to uninstall both games to make sure I was dealing with the correct version when using nmm and loot.

The 1st problem I ran into was nmm not detecting skyrim vr even after manually inserting the path, so I decided to use mod organizer 2 and that solved the problem.
Then with mo2 I d/l and installed about 30 mods.

It came time to deal with the load order and install loot and when I did I got the same problem as with nmm...loot does not detect skyrim vr, infact all games are greyed out in the loot drop down except for fallout 4, that's the only game detected.
In loot settings I made the default game skyrim se(as there is no option for vr) but still the only game detected is fallout 4.

I tried to manually enter a path in loot settings so that it would find skyrim vr but that just got confusing and I couldn't get it to work.

Should I be re-installing skyrim se just so loot will detect that and then trying to do something with that?

Fyi I have run the game before and after installing mo2 in the hopes that loot might need the game to run once before it can detect it, but no luck.

Put them in the same folder as your other mods and Vortex will recognise them.

Ah OK, I had about given up on that mod, and it was peeving me off as that looked like the best mod ever.
Thanks for taking the time...I'll d/l them and put them in the mod folder as you suggest. Thanks again!

I use SMIM - it has some of its own textures but it's best to put this near the top of the dependency scale , then set other textures to load after it.

So what do I do about load order? I have about 30 mods installed and enabled. It says theres a potental conflict between realistic water2 and smim, and to create a rule.

So for the tools that are included with vortex like loot, sseedit etc... how do I activate them, or has loot been working behind the sceens without me having to do anything, and my load order is good to go?

Use the lightning bolt at the side of each mod to set a dependency. Vortex will tell you when there's conflicting mods - do not ignore this and get into the habit of setting the dependancy as soon as it gives out the notice.

load everything you now get after SMIM.

I didn't like Realistic Water 2... So switched to Beautiful Waters instead:

Yes, Vortex auto-sorts mods as you instal them so no need for LOOT unless you're having a specific issue.

Does it matter where I launch the game from, or does it have to be through vortex to get my mods to work? Or will the mods work if I launch through rift/steam?

If you use Vortex you can start the game normally, Vortex doesn't even have to be started. Same with NMM. Both use hard links to place the files into the data directory, which is working all the time.

MO on the other hand, uses a virtual file system to make the game see the files in the data directory. To do this, the game HAS to be started through MO. This is not required if using any other mod manager.

Right, that is actually why I asked because when I had MO2 installed it said I had to start through it, but that just leads to all kinds of vr problems as vr needs to start a certain way to work properly as I'm sure you already know!

Thanks again for all you help, and handholding bro, you saved me countless hours of stress and confusion!
