The problem is the game itself. Its a well known fact Bethesda didn't bother sinking much money in this because only the biggest fanyboys would buy. Don't expect Bethesda to fix this. The best thing for you to do is get a refund or cop it.
You can either edit the control profile for SkyrimVR by changing the right thumbstick to "Right Trackpad 2"
Or opt out of SteamVR beta and wait for a proper guide to be made @.@
tldr: Steam VR beta issues with Windows Mixed Reality headsets, not a Skyrim only issue
this is the wrong place for your rant. Also I think people need to look at the specs more before they just buy VR games. You can't just buy a game that twa made for the Occulous or the Vive VIRTURAL REALITY head set and expect it to work on your $200 windows mixed reality headset.
I'm also on a G2. I never got the lockpicking to work. In the end I just used Inigo (or you can use another follower of your choosing of course) to pick locks. Not exactly a solution but a workaround of sorts.
When picking a lock with both thumb sticks, I have always started with the left one for the lockpick to find the right position, then the right one to turn the lock. But moving the right thumbstick to either side always has reset the position of the lock pick to that side, instead of keeping the orientation, which broke my lockpicks instantly in most situations.
As I found out after countless broken lockpicks, it is important to move the right thumb stick exactly into the same direction as the left one in order to keep the orientation of the lock pick. This way, it is possible to try out diffrerent orientations as expected.
Example: Imagine the lock as a clock face, with 12 o'clock pointing up. The movement of the lockpick is alwys limited between 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock. Now if you turn your left thumbstick to 10:30 because the lock sound is the most appealing one there, to try this position you have to move the right thumbstick to 10:30 as well. If you chose the correct position, the lock will now turn as expected and give away whatever secrets you may find.
If my description helps any of my fellow G2 users out there to pick locks successfully, I would be more than happy. To me, not being able to pick locks was really spoiling the fun for an otherwise perfect combination of high-resolution glasses and an incredibly immersive (modded) game.
Thank you, I was looking for lockpicking solutions for my HP Reverb G2 and I can confirm your method works, but it is still finicky and can still be very frustrating to work. I have found a permanent solution that can get the lockpick to work as intended:
1. Press the '3 lines' button to go into settings.
2. Go to 'controllers', then 'edit this bindings'.
3. For the right controller, scroll down to 'Joystick'. It will contain a section with "right second trackpad/thumbstick value". Delete that section.
4. For the other section that contains "right trackpad/ thumbstick value". Change that entry to "right second trackpad/thumbstick value". Click on the tick button to save.
5. You can now back out of the setting menu and enjoy the game!
