Default rendering settings are bad, please fix
So there has been a lot of discussions on forums on how bad Fallout 4 VR looks (after the fix). We all know the issue. The game engine uses deferred rendering (which is bad for VR) and we know that its way to much work to switch over to forward rendering. But the default TAA settings are bad along with the current SS setting. Please take the time to tweek these settings for us and release it as an update (thanks for your previous updates). Also reach out to to valve for help on improving your engine for VR.

good so deffered rendering so all SS from ingame will just be useless
They really just need to tweak the TAA settings. Its set up for 1080p desktops right now. Not zoomed in VR headset resolutions. Its just a blury mess... Shocked they haven't caught onto this. My guess is they were all running the game on 4K desktops when testing and having the game scale to that.

It certainly seems that way.

Yeah, TAA settings need tweeking big time. but really I do not have the time to fool around with the ini and try all different permutations. This is what I'm hopping Bethesda does.I know its never going to be prefect (due to deferred rendering). But the default settings are bad an can be massively improved. I did not pay $60 for a blurry mess that I need to fix.
Over all the game is AWESOME in VR. I just hope they don't abandon it.

Simple Fix:

iMaxAnisotropy=4

(originally 16) This prevents jaggedness but doesnt make it blurry.

You can find the file to change in 'MyDocuments/MyGames/Fallout 4 VR/Fallout4Prefs.ini'

I don't think so.. Anisotropy is the amount of texture filtering to fix distortion on angled polygons.
Its got nothing to do with aliasing. Lower levels would cause blur on objects around their edges.

Its not a bad setting to tweak for a performance boost though. I lowred mine from 16 to 8.

Edit: To be more specific. I don't mean the edge as in the edge edge.. I just mean the sides. Just google it xD I can't explain in text as well as an example photo.

i know what you mean, but that setting also influences the AntiAliasing filter. Its level is determined from 0,2,4,8,16 normally (like in the normal Fallout 4 launcher or any game setting), and this is the setting that effects it is all. I just probably didnt describe it well :P

I recognize that you are asking for a fix from the devs, but this seems like a good place to put this helpful resource.

If you follow the directions it will only take 2-3 minutes and you will fix pretty much every issue the game has, from bluriness to framerate to world scale (so you aren't a midget anymore).

That... That is not how that is supposed to work... Seriously Bethesda what the hell?
I'm going to try this out now, might be the magic bullet I'm looking for. But never would have thought to try that in a million years because that is the opposite of what it is supposed to do. I swear these devs...

Did you start this plebbit thread? You keep linking it. Everyone here already knows about the TAA and SS settings.

Yeah been following the that thread. Rather have Bethesda change these to the optimum settings, but in the end I'll probably need to do it.

I didnt expect it too either but when changing it drastically from 16 to 4, the amount of blurriness is quite obivous and reduced heavily, i was just glad it worked, as well as being a performance booster, i think it kinda just messes up with VR and the low pixel density. I mean for me, that seemed to be the issue, not necessarily TAA.

I can see some improvement and it's certainly close to where I had it with other work arounds. Switch FXAA and you get almost the same result with a performance boost. But it's not quite perfect. Not as good as I had it on 1.0.30.0.
Tell me, how is your blurryness at a distance?

I did not, I am only boosting it for others to see as I think it is valuable.

Also, I find most people know to turn off TAA, this involves tweaks to utilize TAA better, this has little to do with SS, and actually a lot more to do with tweaking a lot of settings like Shadows which results in massive FPS boost. And most people aren't aware of how to change the world scale so they aren't midgets, instead they usually try to use VR setting to artifically inflate their height which results in new problems.

its not too bad, i know there are futher tweaks you can do, i saw one post give these :

fTAAPostSharpen=0.675
fTAASharpen=1.0000
fTAAHighFreq=0.8000
fTAALowFreq=0.5000
fTAAPostOverlay=0.675

But i honestly couldnt remmeber the difference so it clearly wasnt enough for me to notice. So i didnt end up using them. But i can see things, as far as i can tell the only limitation is the screen resolution now for distance things. I can see quite well for like 15-20 meters, it then gets into the people start to appear like fuzzy figerines. Ill just say its a good job radier's really look like raiders, or there may be some friendly fire in the future... :P
