Do we still need to do a DSR fix?
Day1 - res sucked and game was nearly unplayable

day2 - 4k dsr fix came out via nvidia control panel GAME LOOKS AMAZING and runs well enough

day3 - Besthda releases own fix- completely destroying me resolution fix and the game looks god awful again

I've been trying to find a fix on and oof for a long time now - anyone have one? Still running on a 1080p display but it's like the game doesn't listen the to DSR fix now

Steam's built-in supersampling works correctly with FO4VR now, I would start there.

Right - things are still blurry at distance and it runs much worse :S
Is there nothing I can do to make it just use the effective dsr again?

No - Steam SS literally does the exact same thing as the DSR fix did, it increases the rendering resolution.

If you aren't getting the same results, something else has changed (likely, since the patches did change a few other things).

The distance blur is most likely due to TAA - you can enable/disable that in the console to see the effects without a restart, and use the game menu to lock it in afterwords - "taa off" and "fxaa on" is the most common way to go. There are some sharpening commands you can use on reddit somewhere if you want to use TAA and get a bit more sharpness.

One of the updates to SteamVR also caused some massive performance issues - I believe it's the current beta patch (or maybe the beta patch fixed it....). If you are on the current SteamVR beta branch, disable it, and if you aren't, try using it.

Aight worth a shot - Thanks Sal. TAA doesn't seem to make a huge diffrence sadly but 4xing the resolution seems to help some. That's new

you can also edit Fallout4Custom.ini located in documents/mygames/fallout4vr

add the line

[VRDisplay]
fRenderTargetSizeMultiplier=1.0

You can change the 1.0 to whatever you want. I have mine set to 1.4.
1.0 i believe is the default

I believe that setting might currently be ignored in favor of Steam SS.

No that setting will also be multiplied by the Steam SS setting, so it's best to keep it at one,

Gotcha, I knew something was funky with using it. Had a 50/50 shot of getting it right :D

i have been doing a little bit of testing for the last couple days andI have noticed a huge difference in distance clarity when bumping up the fRenderTargetSizeMultiplier to 1.6 and setting steam ss to 0.8 and it runs much smoother.

I like to use natural green, its a grass mod that doesnt over do all the green. If you set the fRenderTargetSizeMultiplier to the default 1.0, all the grass and everything else had to much antialiasing even when setting steam ss to 2.0 does not fix the problem.

Setting the fRenderTargetSizeMultiplier to atleast 1.5 and lowering steam ss below 1.0 makes a big difference in performance and makes it look better.

give it a shot and if you find what i have found please let me know if it works for you

I also use vivid fallout all in one best choice becouse it gives you better textures and better performance then vanilla

So it seems that fRenderTargetSizeMultiplier clears up distence clarity and steam ss sharpens up things that are closer. I dont know why it works that way but it does

After trying this I've gotten my visuals looking way better I didn't know about this modifier before it's great.

if there is nothing in the .ini. file just copy and paste from this and change the value to whatever you like.

[VRDisplay]
fRenderTargetSizeMultiplier=1.0

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/28587?tab=posts

I used this instead of the manual ini change since I already had it installed, but obviously either way will work.

Thanks for the response. I edited the file and the VRDisplay section and gave it a value of 1.5 and reduced the SS to 0.7 but the distance still looks blurry especially in Santuary and some other areas? Maybe I check out the Mod as there are probably related settings that go with it that haven't been discussed discussed here yet? Cheers!
