How to Use Vortex with Fallout VR?
basically after installing Fallout VR and launching the game, and then closing it, i launch Vortex. However, Fallout VR is not listed under 'discovered games', but Skyrim VR is. Needless to say, Fallout VR is under the 'managed games' tab. Their is an orange icon on the right side of Vortex that says, Mods cant be deployed. And when you click on fix, you have 3 folder options to point to a directory. Base, download path, and install path are the directories.

I have no clue what is supposed to be in each path.... so i put my default steamapps fallout vr directory in basically each of them. At this point I have no clue what to do, because the warning is still there saying, "mods can't be deployed'.

Does anyone know what is wrong, and how to fix this?

Thanks.

No it dorsn‘t. But you have to set the mods‘ installation path to the same drive as the game‘s.

Check Vortex‘s path setting (they‘re set individually for each game!)

I never was able to figure out how to get paths to work properly, I moved the install over to the ssd and it fixed automatically.

But that“s just the wrong way. Especially NEVER EVER put the mods into Vortex‘s directory itself, because then each update of Vortex would delete all of them.

The installation path is completely independent of the location of the mods, and that‘s how it should be.

It just updated today and didn't delete any mods.

"E:\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4 VR\Mods" Looks like it took care of it regardless.

That‘s most certainly a setting you‘ve made yourself. This path will never be set by Vortex itself, at least not in the versions I‘ve been using.

You seem to overestimate the capabilities of someone who couldn't get mods working before vortex was installed. When was the last time you used vortex? It didn't set it automatically but as I said when I installed it to the same drive instead of the base harddrive everything fixed itself.

Um. yesterday? I‘ve been using it since 0.13

It‘s you who said that you couldn‘t get the path settings to work. But it seems like you actually DID, and maybe didn‘t recognize that right away (sometimes Vortex itself takes a while to react on changes and acknowoledging that they now are ok to work with).

I‘m regularly reading and contributing in the Vortex forum. And what I‘m writing here is exactly what Tannin is telling everyone: The installation path of Vortex doesn‘t matter at all, only the mod installatiokn path does. And NEVER EVER install mods in the Vortex installation itself. Vortex should remain on it‘s default installation (C:\program files), there‘s absolutely no reason to install it anywhere else.

The default path Vortex is using for mods and mod archives is C:\users\<username>\appdata\roaming\Vortex.

And you have to change THAT path if your game is not installed on C!

If I had solved it then why would I still be getting the same error for days until I reinstalled it to the other drive? I'm inclinced to to think you've been using it for skyrim and not fallout and they're handled differently.

Or is there something you're leaving out about how vortex will save all information between installs but not on multiple restarts.

What error did you get?

You should check out the Vortex support forum: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/forum/4301-vortex/

You'll find help there, and if you encounter a bug, Tannin will be more than happy to learn about it. It's still a very early version, after all.
