auto

I use to have 2 graphics cards like a 660 and a 1080. I would use the 660 for pure physx leaving cpu and gpu for other things. I took it down since performance was not an issue.

If both cards are the same (exactly the same) leave it on auto , it will always select GPU 2, if they are different select GPU 2, never use the CPU for physics, (with 2 cards) it destroys performance.

If you only have one card leave it on auto.

Doesn't Fallout 4 use Havok physics, not PhysX? My understanding from reading elsewhere is that there is no benefit of attempting to use PhysX on the NVIDIA gpu with Fallout 4 because of that...

As far as I can tell it does.. which would explain my performance , 0% reprojection 90fps solid everywhere even in heavy battles with maximum AI on screen , also seen some Flex effects too, some sort of witchcraft if it doesn't Lol , I know FO4 did support Physx Flex , can't find anything official, but I'm definitely getting physx effects and benefits it would seem. I will confirm this tomorrow.

Looking forward to your findings. I have a spare GTX 1060 6GB and would love to be able to use it for handling physics to take the load off my main hardware if possible!

EDIT: Just checked the Wiki page, and Fallout 4 (pancake, at least--I'm assuming that patch was incorporated in VR too) is listed as supporting PhysX:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_with_hardware-accelerated_PhysX_support

I'm definitely gonna try installing the GTX 1060 alongside my 1080Ti this weekend. My older CPU will probably benefit, I think. Not sure of the procedure though...

Yeah I found the same info too.. I wondered if HBAO+ could be enabled in VR too..woot Lol
I found this in FO4pref.ini for the 2D game, you can enable them in the advanced section of the launcher in the OG FO4.

[NVHBAO]

bEnable= 1

[NVFlex]

bNVFlexEnable=1

I haven't tried those in FO4 VR yet , but I'm pretty sure I have seen Flex like effects in the VR game already as explosions and ragdoll effects are just too good at times for there not to be some sort of NVFlex effect going on.. definitely get that card installed.

This video shows how easy it is to install a second card for physx , just download the latest driver for the card install it along with the latest physx version , go to nvidia control panel and set the second card as physx GPU 2 , thats it, pretty straight forward.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wMglgUbhHc

Post your results please .. I would say I have seen a very decent performance boost since the last update and enabling my second card as physx. it may be a combination of both factors but what's more important is that my system is stable and now running the game with comparative ease, which is great , Love the game having a blast too.. :d:

I'm not using any super sampling, the game looks pretty fine to me, very clear and crisp at close and mid distances, GFX are all set to default. I have tried SS 1.6 but honestly I prefer performance over GFX which in my case doesn't really justify it as the difference in quality is barely worth it unless I turn off TAA , which I prefer over Off or FXAA.

Yes. when you set it to auto it will always use the GPU anyway , in my experience it never uses CPU. just below the selector it will say PhysX set to GPU even when auto is selected.

100% GPU is too high , I'm around 60- 65% .. most of the time .. peaks a bit in combat but generally never over 75%. I would lower some settings in the performance tab try to get that GPU load down.. experimentation is the key , I'm sure you can find a nice balance.

Shoud i take tta off?
Bob Mar 1, 2018 @ 3:08pm
nah I didn't... let me know what you think please.... thanks

Edit : Ok so I tried it with TAA then without TAA, my own thoughts ... inconclusive. it was worth the effort though. If anyone else would like to share their opinions on wether they seen any improvement feel free to comment , I did think it had some affect on distance clarity though and also the textures seemed a bit softer, explosions I'm not so sure it did have any effect after all , but they are already pretty good , Ragdoll effect , I 'm pretty sure worked a bit better as a few AI flew across the screen just a bit too far Lol.. again inconslusive as I have seen that happen without the edits. maybe not quite as far though :d:

I have a 8600k/1080ti that was crashing a lot. Switching from auto to gpu has made a huge difference in the frequency of crashs I get.

Still planning to do this, but am waiting on a molex-to-PCI-E "Y" cable so I can power the 2nd card. Woulda thought my higher-tier PSU would have extra ports, but no...
