Having problems with RIFT S never working straight off? Found a solution.
The Rift S VR is a damn fussy beast, for 2 months I struggle to get the thing working straight off. I can guarantee on a new evening it will have all kinds of issues and MIGHT finally work 30 minutes to one hour later after swapping between 6 USBs before it decides to work. Then maybe I`ll get an hour befrore it goes squirrelly again.

I have a X470 board (which is pretty modern) with 6 3.0 USBs and STILL all kinds of issues. Unstable as heck.

Well, finally, I heard a rumour that the Oculus Rift S likes to hog ALL the USB slots to itself, even ones it don`t use, so separate your usb stuff and the Rift S stuff completely. I decided to buy a USB 4 Ports USB 3.0 Fast 5Gbps PCI Express(PCIe) Expansion Card for my pc.

I put all my USB keyboard\mouse on the card and let my Rift hog the motherboard USB. Still not much better.

So I put the Rift S onto the card alone and put everything else to the motherboard USBs, so that the Rift S has the USB card all to itself.

And wow... I tested for 3 days. Every-single-time it started perfectly and ran for a good 4-5 hours on day 1, day 2 and finally day 3. In fact Fallout4 crashed more (twice in that time).

This might not work for everyone, but it seems like the Oculus Rift S VR wants to hog all the USBs (even ones it don`t use), so get a pcie card with 2-4 USB slots and stick it alone on that.

Maybe this will help someone else.

Better sell that mess and buy an Index.

Sure let`s pay THREE TIMES the money for an Index. You`re not a smart man are you?

I literally have 60+ hours playing Fallout4VR on my Rift S.
It literally is Plug-n-Play for me

Make sure you WIndows, drivers, and motherboard BIOS are up to date

I sometimes wonder if it`s my motherboard as I am completely and utterly up-to-date with everything, bios, drivers, windows. Believe me, I spent ages trying to find a solution. It`s an x470 so should be good enough, but maybe it wasn`t.

Anyway, adding this pcie Hub did the trick.

It`s a bit redundant now, but what Motherboard do you have?

MSI b150m board (6th gen Intel i-core board; I have a i7-7700k on it). It also has Intel USB 3.0 ports, which from reading on here and reddit, tends to have better compatibility with Oculus Rift.

Thanks. Maybe it`s the Intel usb.

I have an MSI X470 GAMING PRO ATX Motherboard for AMD Socket AM4 Processors running
Ryzen 7 2700X.
Interesting.

85 hours on Fallout 4VR on my Rift S without a single issue. (Response mainly for the Index comment that doesn't have Index controller support for Fallout)
