Split Video card HDMI out for HTC Vive & monitor?
Hi Folks, playing FO4 VR on HTC Vive and the Vive needs the HDMI out from my video card, so I have to use the DVI port on the card, thru an adapter to show video on the monitor, but that has no sound then.

Wondering if I can get an HDMI splitter and split the HDMI signal coming out of the card, into both the Vive and my monitor... has anyone done anything like this ..?

Does your GPU have a DisplayPort?
If yes, you can use that with a DP->MiniDP cable for the Vive. (It has a MiniDP port next to the HDMI port on the breakout box)
I use that without problems, since I also have only 1 HDMI port on my GPU.

A display port to hdmi cable from gpu to monitor works as well.

I'd rather avoid using cross-standard converter cables, to avoid signal degradation in the conversion process.

got the displayport -> hdmi cable, but sound still only goes to the htc vive headset when in VR .. but this does save me having to switch hdmi cables when going into /out of VR

If its and adapter and not a converter there should be no degradation. I think when its from HDMI to DP it is not a converter. VGA would require a converter, but VR ready computers / GPUs should not have any VGA ports anyway.

If you send the same HDMI signal to both the HMD and the monitor though... that wont work. It will wither show the monitor or HMD feed then.

Sound always goes through the USB for the VR headsets, but usually DisplayPort ports support sound, but you need to ensure that the adapter you use also supports sound. Not that it matters in this case though.

Although I ran Vive from release on the HDMI and my flat panal with a DP to Hdmi adaptor from release date, I recently got a 4k tv as my main game panal and found it would only work on HDMI so I bought a DP to mini DP for Vive and kept the TV on Hdmi which works fine now.

Do you have a audio in jack on your TV/monitor?
Many have one for playing the sound through the tv on vga/dvi mode. If so just get a cable for converting your audio out in the pc to the audio in on tv. The sound will play when your on vga/dvi mode.

If you don't have one, a display port cable to hdmi will work fine.

DVI also supports audio now, it depends on the graphics card though, and maybe the DVI cable you use, but you can get sound through DVI as well as you can with HDMI and DP.
