Pip Boy
is it just me or is the placement of the pipboy in vr annoying i wish it was on your arm and not like your holding it in your hand.

In Fllout4VrCustom.ini there's a setting to adjust how much the Pip-Boy inflates when you look at it.
There's also a setting in the VR options in the game to turn it into a hologram projection, if you prefer.

its not really that but were it is located on the arm. i already turned off inflates because i supersample the game so its easier to read when its small. it just lookes like im holding the pipboy rather than it being like a watch on my arm.

The Pipboy is absolute perfection. They way it increases when you raise your arm - beautifully done. Else, you couldn't see text given the limitation of 1st gen lenses. That is why the devs did not include the character's arms, you can't blow those up.

OP - please go to the top right corner of my post box and click the checkmark. Thanks for cooperation.

@SHADOWxWOLF are you using Touch or Vive Wands? I have been working on a fix for Touch users which positions the PipBoy on the back of your wrist if you wanted to give my settings a go.

Nonsense, I disabled the inflate animation, and it's perfectly readable at default SS. I personnally hated it, thankfully Bethesda offered a setting in the menu, no need to tweak the .ini for that.
But I agree with OP, when not looking at it, I think the placement is alright, could be a bit higher toward the wrist, but it's not too distracting. But when you look at it, it slides along your arm, off your wrist, and look like you're holding it in hand indeed, just like OP said. Annoying AF. And the trackpad to navigate is a bit too sensitive too...

There are a couple of settings you can add to add to the VRCustom.ini and tweak to try change it's position realitve to the hand.

Try muck around with:
fPipboyTranslateY_LH=-5.0
fPipboyTranslateY_RH=-20.0
fPipboyEndTranslateY_LH=15.0
fPipboyEndTranslateZ=-7.5
fPipboyEndTranslateX=2.5

And of course theres translate values for X and Z as well currently defaulting to 0.
If you find the right adjustment to position it on the wrist let eveyone know.

The pipboy could still just set in a negative space without the arm model.

Given the current navigation scheme, it’s much easier to put it on front display and use both hands for the menu.

I can try that, will play around this weekend, see if I can have it stop moving around. Thanks for the tip.

I'm surprised more people aren't trying to tweak this. I figured out a setting that suits what I was hoping for, by adding this (for Vive use):

fPipboyEndTranslateY_LH=0
fPipboyEndTranslateZ=0
fPipboyEndTranslateX=0

fPipboyRotateY=300.0000
fPipboyRotateZ=-62.5000

This gives me a relatively natural position if I'm trying to put it in a wristwatch position, while not having it balloon up in size or jut forward towards the donut of my controller. The problem is now there's other commands that need tweaked for screen activation angles. Settings I can't comprehend how to mess with like:

fHMDToPipboyScaleOuterAngle=5.0000
fHMDToPipboyScaleInnerAngle=25.0000
fPipboyScaleOuterAngle=55.0000
fPipboyScaleInnerAngle=60.0000
bScalePipboyWithPipboyAndHMDRightVectorCompare=0
bScalePipboyWithPipboyToHMDAngle=1

I thought I had it at one point until I realized the pipboy would activate when I'd look left while my hand was all the way down by my side. I've found zero resources to break down the commands.

When i do my hardcore playthrough I'm going to use the arm mounted PIPboy but for normal and hard the projected is a bit easier since it pauses the game like the original setup
Lennia Feb 17, 2018 @ 8:23am
Here's the settings where I think I just got it working:

fHMDToPipboyScaleOuterAngle=90.0000 #60
fHMDToPipboyScaleInnerAngle=75.0000 #45
fPipboyScaleOuterAngle=80.0000 #50
fPipboyScaleInnerAngle=65.0000 #35
fPipboyTranslateY_LH=-5.0000
fPipboyEndTranslateY_LH=-5.0000
bScalePipboyWithPipboyAndHMDRightVectorCompare=1
bScalePipboyWithPipboyToHMDAngle=1

I'll need to play a bit, though, as it does still seem to stay on when the Pipboy is off to the left of the HMD.

I'd like to try this too, since I recently got a gun stock for my Vive controllers to mount them on. However, since the Pip Boy is, as stated above, kinda positioned in my hand instead of my forearm, it always ends up clipping through my rifles and blocking the view of my ironsights.
Which .ini do I put these in, and under which [SECTION]?
Kerag Sep 6, 2020 @ 7:06am
Try out these settings. Pipboy is exactly where it supposed to be. Screen works as long as you look directly at it.
Keep in mind, I was doing this for the smallest model possible in options menu. And thats for the Index controllers. I dont know how it will behave on others.

[VRPipboy]
fPipboyRotateZ=-115.0000
fPipboyRotateY=15.0000
fPipboyRotateX=220.0000
fPipboyTranslateZ_LH=11.0000
fPipboyTranslateY_LH=-28.0000
fPipboyTranslateX_LH=-6.0000

fHMDToPipboyScaleOuterAngle=58.0000
fHMDToPipboyScaleInnerAngle=54.0000

fPipboyScaleOuterAngle=32.0000
fPipboyScaleInnerAngle=28.0000

bScalePipboyWithPipboyAndHMDRightVectorCompare=0
bScalePipboyWithPipboyToHMDAngle=1
