Did I completely miss character customization options?
OK, willing to admit this morning that I feel like an idiot and suspect *maybe* I missed a special button press.

I simply could not find *any* character customization options when starting a new game last night. All I could figure out how to do was select from preset appearances. Did I miss some button that I should have pressed? Was there an informational popup that I missed?

I suppose I "get it" if you can only pick from presets since there's no 3rd person view in VR, but there's this annoying little part of me that in an RPG wants to customize my character appearance.

I either missed it too, or it really doesn't exist. At least there was no button for it. I kinda tried every button though, and didn't get any results.

They propably haven't figured out how to make the character customisation work in VR, or just were too lazy to implement it.

A possible work around for this is to do the character customisation step in fallout 4, then copy the save file across. No idea if this breaks any VR changes down the line but the engine has always been pretty savegame compatable and it definately does allow you to play with your customised character.

There is no character customization beyond a few presets at the starting point. You're never going to see yourself again in game so...is it really an issue?

rit already said that, but still, in every other fallout game since Fallout 3 we wee able to customize our character, even though we sometimes saw very little of it. So why not keep it for novelty purposes?

The other fallout games you were able to go 3rd person and see yourself. Given that you will never see yourself in this game, why would they go through the work of making customization VR friendly (in terms of the controls)?

I'd say reflections but I'm pretty sure the character model doesn't actually render... But you are forgetting you can customise your spouse and enjoy that for oh... At most maybe 30 minutes of gameplay? Plus anytime you want to visit their frozen corpse.

They took out all the customization except for the few preset choices that you had in the flat version as well. Because why would they leave any in there, literally the only time you're going to see yourself is in that mirror scene. There's no third person cameras in VR, and the game doesn't have working mirrors.

eh. like I said, it's mostly a stupid obsessive compulsive desire to customize my character no matter if I'll see them or not. But I also just wanted to make sure I didn't miss some stupid obvious button I had to push.

I believe, though, that Shaun's appearance is based on the parents, no?

I think that was supposed to be the plan but they skipped out on it by making him only appear as a generic baby and generic old man.

Actually it is generated by the faces of both parents. Someone used a console command to change his appearance after the character creation screen and changed the nose on the character model, and the new nose was then present at old Shaun's face as well.

It's a shame that 3rd person mode was removed from the game. Nice going again Bethesda.

Must be subtle then. My brother had both parents be dark skinned and Shaun was still a pale old man. I mean I know he's into modifying himself but that's some real Micheal Jackson stuff right there.

I'd say people arguing on why there doesn't need to be character customization in Fallout VR are first missing the fact that Skyrim VR lets me customize my character and I saw him far less.... like literally in the creation screen then never again. I'm just saying there is no reason to remove a feature, people that don't care will just preset and go but if someone wants to enjoy making their character look perfect then why deny them that? It makes no sense. They would have an argument if Bethesda built Fallout VR from scratch but they literally had to take the time to remove the character creator.

Last thing the lack of attention to any VR features in this game is just sad but like Skyrim, the modding community has made this a wonderful VR experience.
