Nexus Mod Manager and FO4Edit are working
- Copied "Fallout4VR.exe" to "Fallout4.exe" and "Fallout4Launcher.exe" inside the Fallout 4 VR installation folder

- I placed the "fo4edit" directory inside the Fallout 4 VR installation folder so it will find the correct data folder instead of the non-VR Fallout4 one.

- Installed Mod Manager and let it search for Fallout 4. It first found the non-VR Fallout 4 (that I have installed as well). When I pressed the "cross" symbol it searched for another installation containing "Fallout4.exe" and it found the Fallout 4 VR installation.

I installed CBBE and Realistic Survival Damage. According to "fo4edit" everything is fine and the game loads without issues.

Update: Forgot a step

- Add the following to the bottom of the "Fallout4Custom.ini" file inside the "<Documents>\My Games\Fallout4VR" folder:

[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=

Update 2: And another step

- Set up a custom launcher inside Nexus Mod Manager. Go to "Settings -> Fallout 4 (tab) -> Custom Launch Command" and configure it to launch "Fallout4VR.exe". When launching the game select "Launch Custom Fallout 4" instead of "Launch Fallout 4" by pressing the drop down.

Update 3: And yet I forgot another step

- Copy the content of "AppData\Local\Fallout 4" into "AppData\Local\Fallout4VR" before launching. May be this could be made into a junction instead.

Update 4: Missing step

- Thanks to the people here responding. After copying the files in AppData you have to modify the "plugins.txt" and put an asterisk * in front of every plugin you want to be enabled. Nexus Mod Manager does not seem to do that (not sure why as it should support the new "plugins.txt" format).

Note: Before doing all of the above, do not forget to backup your "AppData\Local\Fallout 4" and Mod Manager folders.

You copied an exe file to another exe file and another exe file? What does this mean?

What "fo4edit" directory? Where is this directory?

Maybe some kind person could make a youtube video on the steps and install a sample mod.

It is to trick the Nexus Mod Manager and "fo4edit" to let them think Fallout 4 VR is a valid Fallout 4 installation. Just copy them if you want those mod tools to work.

It is a tool that can be used to check / edit mod records. If you do not know what it is you may not need it (for now at least).

I don't have FO4Edit, and mods are working fine for me, so you can definitely skip that step if you're not using it.

So mods and all that seem to be working fairly well, I do get a few random dropped frames that seem to be related to retextured stuff though, such as zooming in on pipboy, but hey it looks sharp!

Also to anyone that is having issues with the plugins.txt/DLCList.txt and copying them over, if you go to your Fallout 4 VR folder (with the executable) and created a text document then add the following lines -

copy /Y %localappdata%\Fallout4\DLCList.txt %localappdata%\Fallout4VR\
copy /Y %localappdata%\Fallout4\plugins.txt %localappdata%\Fallout4VR\
fallout4vr.exe

Then save it as something like FO4VR_Start.bat, you can go to NMM and set the custom command to FO4VR_Start.bat, it'll copy over the files before starting up the game.

Is there any good big texture pack that you would recommend to get started with?
I keep reading all over the place to copy the content of Fallout 4's applocal stuff to Fallout VR's....

Guys.. Mind blowing realization here. I don't have fallout 4 or any of it's files on my PC anymore. What do?

I gather the plugin list was there but what does the text contain? Can someone just post the Plugin.txt contents here? I haven't installed mods manually in a loooong time.

Those files aren't created by the Fallout 4 game. They're made by NMM in the Fallout 4 appdata folder even after you've convinced it that the VR game is Fallout 4. Did you follow the steps in OP? Original Fallout 4 not required.

Are you sure that NMM makes it? FO4 seems to look for it so I think that it is there by default.
