RX 480??
Being that FO4VR requires a gtx 1070 or a rx Vega 56, how poor do you think it will run on a rx 480? Think the game will even be playable?

RX 480 is about equivalent to a GTX 1060.

So watch for GTX 1060 reviews. If it's playable for them, then you should be ok.

Thanks friend. I'll be keeping an eye out for those reviews.

This especially given Bethesda are now optimizing for AMD specifically in their upcoming games.

If it runs well on a 1060 it'll run on an RX 480 no problem.

Curious to know but I seriously doubt it. You could always try it and request a refund if it isnt playable. Don't go over 2 hours gametime.

Sold my rx480 and bought 1080ti.

Did anyone give it a shot?

I did. It "worked"....but uncomfortably. Graphically it looked better than expected, and the framerate held up....however there were constant jittery artifacts whenever there was motion on the headset. I wouldn't call it frame drops. It was almost as if there was incredibly bad reprojection that I couldn't turn off. Being that all of the complaints people were having were about blurriness and the no Oculus touch support, I figured that my issues were caused by the RX 480 underperforming. Therefore, I ended up refunding the game after playing for about an hour and a half. I'll re-buy the game once I upgrade my gpu...which probably won't be for a while. However, I did play this before the 1.0.30.0 update. So if the issue was fixed, I wouldn't be able to tell you. Though, if you really want to check it out, go for it. It is worth trying, and there is fun to be had. But don't play more than 2 hours until you make your decision on whether it's worth keeping, or if you need to refund it like I did. I have a PSVR as well, so I figured I'd just stick with Skyrim VR until I can afford a better gpu. But if Fallout 4 VR works for you on your RX 480, let me know! I'd love to hop back in!

BTW, my setup is as follows:
i5 6400
RX 480
8GB DDR4

You are right that is was reprojection, but wrong about it not being frame drops. The reason the reprojection is there is because of the dropped frames - That's it's purpose, reprojection kicks in when you are below 90fps to smooth low frame rate.

If your seeing this again in another game, check your performance graph or watch your dropped frames to confirm your not hitting the 90fps target.

Thanks for clarifying. That basically confirms my concerns with using the RX 480 for FO4VR.

So for anyone wondering, here's the concensus:
The game IS playable with the RX480...but be ready to experience some uncomfortable reprojection. If you MUST play the game, go for it and give it try. But, if you want a smoother experience, wait until you upgrade your gpu.

I Have a RX480 too and it works good but the graphics are not really good :) but i have fun with the game :)
That is important :)

My PC is :
I7 920 2,6 Ghz
6 GB DDR3 RAM
RX480
2 TB SATA HDD

It works without any framedrops. it runs wonderful :)
I played yesterday 6 Hours in two Sessions because 1 Crash by building my House
Only the Graphics are a little bit bad :D

Yeah, reprojection isn't the best. It's a very jarring experience. I'm holding off on upgrading until Volta/Navi release although I really have no hope for Navi. Hopefully prices won't be as insane as they are in the current climate(Where an RX 580 costs as much as a 1080Ti!).

I've got an R9 390 but it's on par performance wise with an RX 580 and a 1060 6GB GPU. Tempted to get FO4VR cause there's a sale on but it's not worth it if I'm in reprojection all the time. Lone Echo released a patch that killed performance and the reprojection was so painful(Thankfully they fixed it).

Also, do touch controls work yet? I'd be playing with an Oculus Rift.

I'd hold off getting the game. Even the guys with gtx 1080ti's are complaining about reprojection in busy locations. With my rx 480, I had reprojection issues constantly since creating my character...I didn't make it to Diamond City, but I can't imagine how bad my game's performance would have been there considering how bad it was.
I was also playing with the Oculus, and it does work. The best way to go about playing with the Oculus is to have a gamepad near you to use for menus and the pipboy. There's a setting where you can have the pipboy menu display infront of you rather than looking at your arm. You can use a gamepad with this setting. Its not a very fluid experience, but it works better than fumbling around the menus with the touch controllers.
For me, the clumsy menu navigation and the constant reprojections made the game really frusterating and not enjoyable. So I ended up refunding it.

Yeah, think I'll hold off. There's a lot of good titles out at the moment which can tide me over in VR(Lone Echo, Invisible Hours, Wilson's Heart, From Other Suns). By the time I upgrade I'm sure this will be bargain bin price especially considering it's only the base of a game that's two years old being charged €60.
