We have yet to test it using the Index, however Steam has created a steam binding for the knuckles for Karnage Chronicles
https://steamcommunity.com/games/633750/announcements/detail/1711831772471023477
We will of course be working on our own native support in the future also. We have tested with the knuckles in studio ourselves, and all base functionality seems to be there. We have yet to try the Steam binding to check if thumb-stick movement has any issues however.
Hope this helps!
Dan
This is insane - don't tell me you don't know anyone with a Index or couldn't have gifted a key to someone who will test and report back?
Lazy devs like this will ruin VR - the experience for many is garbage just because some devs aren't honest about their capabilities.
Steam automatically added all VR titles to include index support on their page. Not on us unfortunately.
"Lazy devs like this will ruin VR - the experience for many is garbage just because some devs aren't honest about their capabilities."
Since Karnage was started, we have implemented almost every form of locomotion and controller support requested as possible on our end. It's a lot of work for a 3 man dev team to keep up with the new controller and style trends.
The evolution of VR is constantly shifting, at the beginning it was all about teleportation locomotion, and as the player base has evolved (VR legs improved) we have continued to try to evolve Karnage.
Unreal Engine did not support index for a long time, we have had to upgrade the entire game engine recently to accommodate for this, which brings with it multiple issues. The entire lighting system became broken, multiplayer stopped working, and a list of uncountable issues appeared. We are working on fixing all of the issues to bring the most stable experience we can to players.
Please be patient, we are constantly working as hard as possible to make Karnage the best experience it can be. In it's early days, it was a short 30 minute arcade style RPG, we evolved the game based on player feedback to become what it is today, which is to say the least, a lot more than was originally planned.
For example: https://store.steampowered.com/app/436320/Raw_Data/
Not only is it weird to sell a game on Steam and not support Steams Index - it's like selling on Oculus but not supporting Rift - but it's also strange you keep the Index label if you're NOT compatible.
Also what do you mean by constantly working as hard as possible? On other threads people are asking when the game will even be updated since it was MONTHS. Can't you push out tiny stuff? Like maybe a level or whatever every once in a while?
Another fun fact: Karnage was on sale yesterday and is not anymore. Another magical incident? O_o
Well, that said please remember that if people are bickering it means they care for the product.
Maybe you can find a way to be more active without having to spend loads of time. Maybe updates with progress screenshots or whatever to keep people posted.
e.g. The sale yesterday was likely similar to the one a few days ago that only lasted a day, and was advertised as such. Etc. Etc.
Of course a negative review could also point that out but I believe that would be even more destructive and I want this game to succeed. However:
- It is a fact that VR titles out there which don't support the index don't have it listed.
- It's also a fact that index controls are not working correctly.
- It's also, to my believe, justified to call out lazy devs that do not take care of their product and store page and list index support while having barely .
VR is like a kindling. I have personally witnessed numerous friends and colleagues selling their VR gear because they were fed up with the unfinished titles and support from developers.
So honestly I believe it is VERY important to point that out - yeah, I feel for them only being a 3 man team but that's not an excuse to not update the store page within months and take the index support out if it's not entirely working.
I guess we can all agree on having a VASTLY different understanding of what's civil and what's helping VR.
I think it's my understanding that Steam/Valve created their own key bindings for the knuckles on a bunch of games prior to the release of the Index (see above posts with the link to the "knuckles driver update")
These were at the time, quick implementations (no thumbstick movement etc..), and I assume on the launch of the index they included these titles in to their supported games. We had no input on this decision, and it was even a pleasant surprise to us that valve took the time to implement their own bindings for Karnage.
Thank you for your input, we are working on it at the same time as upgrading the engine issues and crash issues. Keep playing the games you enjoy and consider Karnage is an early access title, with known issues.
Dan
Yup, they did create bindings that attempt to emulate vive / occulus compatibility.
But in many cases those aren't working at all. Results often are weirdly moving arms, not recognized 2nd controllers, intended menus not working - especially if those are tied to thumbsticks etc.
I don't fault you guys at this but it might still be wise to remove the compatibility until fixed or a hotfix is described somewhere. Considering how bad the index sells I guess valve has reasons to do this. But developers suffer because consumers have no one to blame if store pages aren't fixed.
Compatibility would be awesome! Karnage definitely looks like a blast of a game and I will buy it as soon as it's fixed.
The implementation of Index controller support is not that difficult in itself, but it required an entire engine upgrade which broke a lot of the current systems and multiplayer in Karnage. We are working on cleaning those up and we'll try to get the support out as soon as possible
p.s. I hear there are to be 8 chapters in total, with 3-5 levels per? Color me stoked for that!
