A 3D twist on the visual novel that's unlike anything else I've played. Unique art direction, an excellent voice cast, and an engaging story that explores faith, salvation, life, and death. VR support puts your character in the center of things and makes for an extremely immersive experience. Recommended for anyone who's looking for something different from the usual visual novel format.

1/2 VN and 1/2 fever dream, it's a fully-animated, voice-acted story about a Christian village in Japan trying to modernize to attract tourists. You slowly unravel something more sinister going on, and the unnerving character models and animation add to this. The art style is unique, certain textures are transparent and show the patterned overlay. Recommended for a few hours of surreal mystery.

With a vibe like a ps1 game time forgot, the Midnight Sanctuary is the most singular VN I've ever played. It's like... the Deadly Premonition of VNs, though its highs and lows aren't as extreme.

It doesn't do everything perfectly, and while its visuals are strikingly unique I wish there had been a shadow shader to at least give SOME volume to its shapes. It breaks pretty much every rule in 3D animation... and because of it, I'm going to be thinking about it for a long time to come.

Nice and sweet gameplay experience, very good indeed with Voices included. This game is small but creative, filled with strange atmosphere as well as a great story. While most of the visual novels chose to display itself with pictures, this game creates a unique style which has something to do with old school 3D animation. And as it takes impact in game, it puts all of the factors together in an inquisitive format. Recommended.

The story is drawn out a bit too much and the mystery isn't very impactful but I dare anyone to come up with a game with the same tone and ambience that this game delivers.

In my opinion, the tone sells this game in spite of all its apparent flaws.

This game is not for everyone, but is an interesting experience and an unique step in visual novels

This is a good VR experience albeit a bit short if you enjoy just sitting back and watching a story unfold around you. The art style is wonderful in VR if you're a fan of how it looks from the trailer. The voice acting is very well done with everyone sounding like a real character. The story isn't amazing or anything, but I enjoyed learning about the village and its secret slowly unfold.

Do note that you can't move around in the 3D space with your controller, nor do you have hands. All you're able to do is look around, which I find doesn't detract too much from the VN format.

I like a quick, ever-changing feel in a tale, plus it has Cavyhouse's knack for amazing kaleidoscope visuals and narrative-sourcing you won't find anywhere else.

I'm sure many of you have reservations about giving this game a try due to its visuals. Honestly, it looks pretty rough. Mouths move strangely. Noses are practically nonexistent. Animations are goofy. Scenes will appear too dark to discern at low brightness settings but blindingly bright above them.

All of these traits add up to one thing.

This game is absolutely beautiful.

In a sea of identical VNs, The Midnight Sanctuary stands out as something both off-putting and intensely familiar. In screenshots, it is intriguing. In motion, it is stunning.

That is to say nothing of the VN itself. The Midnight Sanctuary tells a fantastic, fully voice-acted story better read than read about. If you have played the developer's previous titles, you should have a good idea of what to expect. I would love to say more, but unfortunately, to do so would cheapen the experience.

This brings me to the one point I am mixed about. The Midnight Sanctuary is a cheap game ($10 at the time of writing), and the amount of content received is representative of its price. This is an incredibly short VN with a single path, clocking in at about 3 hours. Every hour is well spent, and I don't believe the story needed more, but even among similarly priced VNs, more is typically expected. I would not blame anyone for deciding this was not worth the cost.

For those willing to accept this, however, you will find a marvelous, strange experience in The Midnight Sanctuary.
