I had no idea this was even on Steam!! That's awesome.

It runs like garbage on Windows (8.1?) onward due to how 16 bit color was changed to software emulation. You'll want to use an external tool called dgVoodoo 2 to greatly improve performance.

Stability wasn't an issue for me, but I would see the framerate go below 10 during combat as particles started appearing. dgVoodoo fixed this, and save for rare crashes it is playable. I own the GOG version, so results may vary.

If you're unfamiliar with dgVoodoo, it's a tool that converts 3DFX Glide or DirectX 7 to DirectX 11 using an interceptor DLL. Unlike nGlide (the older preferred Glide emulator), it supports early DirectX (meaning more late 90s/early 2000s games work with it instead of just mid-90s) and can do a better job of forcing visual improvements.
I wish developers would bother to make sure their games run ok before putting them on Steam.

I think the rights are a little messed up right now. Interplay itself consists of 12 or so people sitting on a crapload of IPs and trying to survive as long as possible [at least for now], so anything more is kind of out of the question resource-wise. It doesn't help that LithTech 1's source code is probably missing.

You're right though, considering how most GOG games have patches to make them work on modern systems, SHOGO has been a mess from the start. Older releases returning without any real QA is a very common problem, and the early Windows 95/98 titles are usually the absolute worst about this.

Anyway, dgVoodoo 2 is here if you want to see it. It's helped me with a lot of old titles, and many of the issues I've previously had with the tool were fixed with 2.54.

Unfortunately, you can't use Chrome to download it anymore as they've inexplicably blocked the download for a false positive. There are many antiviruses that get a bit sensitive around DLL interceptors (dgVoodoo includes six different ones IIRC, 3 for Glide and 3 for DirectX), so in terms of a so-called "virus" you can see some discussion on that here:
