Does this use the same controls as Shadow Tactics?
I just completed Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun and was looking for something similar when I remembered this game. As much as I liked Shadow Tactics the controls really threw me off. I think not having a standard attack tied to the left mouse button was the thing that bothered me the most. Having to select the attack and then left click on an enemy to use it is a very clunky setup that just lead to too much save scumming because I could never pull off a kill before I was killed. Are the Controls in Desperado 3 better? The Same? Worse?

The standard controls are the same, but you should be able to change them to suit you. I'd suggest trying the demo to see for yourself (your progress carries on anyway)

Where do you get the demo? I don't see it on the store page.

They are basically the same, but it helps to think of these games as not a traditional RTS. Every kill you make has to be deliberate, and when you have an ability selected, then the left mouse button becomes 'use this ability', and killing an enemy just happens to be one of said abilities.
