Most notable is the main character, Cooper, who is the most versatile with his high amount of traversal abilities, his potent distraction and knife, and his ability to single-handedly kill 2 characters with proper timing quietly, 2 with noise if acceptable with no timing requirements and good range, or 3 characters easily simultaneously (4 if you are good). Isabelle is also incredibly broken and can invalidate some of the most challenging situations. The other characters are often extremely hit or miss either being very practical or almost entirely useless compared to other choices (Hector suffering the most, in contrast to Yuki's prevalence in their other game due to excessive poncho enemies in this one).
Unless there is a challenge (which are only self oriented replay excuses and gives no tangible reward) then typically I don't recall any mission ever requiring this or providing any benefit for doing so.
There is no "benefit" for not sounding alarm aside from the game being easier, or at least none explicitly stated as I never gained anything from it and I played by pure undetected stealth (aside from a single dynamite/gattling section). I don't know how much it helps, however, as I made sure to not get detected so I've never gone through a level with enemies being readily hostile and aware. Each level is basically completely independent from one another, aka there is absolutely no unlocks/growth in ability.
so is it chapter/mission based or is it open ended like divinity, would you say this is an rpg, with skills and inventory?
Mission based. Every character has a certain set of skills which can't be changed. There's no inventory aside from being able to pick up a few more bullets for your guns around the map, but you can get away without using guns most of the time.
I'd suggest you try the demo as that will give you an idea of how it is
You have to use multiple characters. You cannot solo.
Well yes and no.
In some cases you need to use multiple characters but Hector and Cooper can solo whole map just fine. Hector can even heal himself and have largest health so hes not easily killed.
For example, the early scenario with Hector and Cooper. It starts with them just outside the back door of a saloon. If you want to, you could play the entire scenario with just one of them and never touch the other one (until it is time for them to meet up at the finish point at the end of the scenario).
