Sooo... Helldorado wasn't the third one?
Seeing as this is not made by the same developers, I can't really share the excitement. We've had plenty of outsourced sequels that were ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, see Mafia III, Cannon Fodder 3 etc.
Also, how can they call this Desperados III, when Helldorado was the third one in the series?

Helldorado was more like a Desperados 2.5 that was done as a standalone because the original publisher had issues.

The developer Mimimi has proven with Shadow Tactics that they can do awesome.

If you had played Shadow Tactics, then, you wouldn't be in doubts regarding the devs. That game was the testament of their love & respect towards the games of this genre. Desperados 3 is in the best possible hands & a lot of people would agree with me.

Anywho, Spellbound, the original devs of Desperados, had also took some creative decisions regarding Cooper's Revenge & Helldorado that didn't work in their favor & that's why fans of the original treat these two games like they never existed.
But, still, we love Spellbound for what they created. It's all part of the process. Take decisions, make mistakes, learn from it & apply next.

Surely Mimimi cant make games that will satisfy 100% of the population; neither can Rockstar nor even CD Projekt Red. It's impossible.

Also, to answer your final question, Helldorado was meant to be like an add on/expansion of Desperados 2: Cooper's Revenge but it was later published as a standalone game.
And, why Helldorado was named Helldorado but not Desperados 3 is because, and I quote,

"Hey Gordon.

Short answer is really, we do not own the rights of the IP of Desperado and can therefor not use the name, Helldorado is our IP and owned by us however.

Well but since then time has passed and Black Forest is a wholly owned THQ Nordic studio. There are still quite a few team members from Desperados days around and of course we asked them for their opinion.

Wasn't aware of that. Thanks for the info. :)

Ah, OK, thanks for the clarification. And no, I haven't played Shadow Tactics.

You should. Its one or if not the best game of the style. As good as the first Desperados was. As said, the game couldnt be in better hands.

Yep, Shadow Tactics was directly inspired by Desperados. When it was released, I sent the developers a personal email thanking them for bringing back the squad based genre and Desperados-style gaming. I have faith they will do Desperados III.

My main worry is that they forgot about Sam. I'm a bit curious as to why. I hoping they are keeping some surprises for the game, and Sam will indeed pop up later in the game.

I assume THQ Nordic has the ability to change the 'Helldorado' name to the 'Desperados' name, because they do in fact own both franchises.
They could, for the sake of consistency, name 'Helldorado' to 'Desperados 2: INSERT SUBTITLE HERE' , to indicate that its another chapter of the second game, just like Valve did with Half-Life and its various episodes. This way the 'Desperados 3' name can still be kept.

Not exactly, I think. In Russia, "Helldorado" game was officially called "Десперадо 3: Схватка в прериях". The developers of the first and second games could not call the game "Desperados 3" just because of copyrights. Because of this reason for Russian release, - the name of the game was translated into Russian. And also, the new "Desperados III" game has Roman number to avoid the same name confusion. Am I right?

Ah, I see. It's just that the whole counting of the games is jumbled in my opinion. It's like you are counting like this: 1, 2, три, III. It makes the connection between the games vague and my inner OCD screams INCONSISTENT.
Cowboy(UA) Aug 26, 2018 @ 9:48am
Yeah, right! It's 1, 2, 3 and III. I remember "Десперадо 3" (Helldorado) as 3-rd part. But, this new "Desperados III" will be perceived as an alternative III-rd part.

I'm so excited for this game. I grew up with desperados literally. Always found it more fun than the depressing enviroment setting in the Commandos series.

Great to know that. I am hpoing then Desperados III will capture the bests from Desperados: Wanted dead or alive and Shadow Tactics since both developer teams are somehow involved.
