So, I found this as an alternative to Fraps, seeing as it suddenly decided to stop recording my usual gameplay. And the user interface is super easy to work around. However, I can't write a decent review on it because thus far, I am severely unimpressed.

I recorded some gameplay, and unlike Fraps, the file I recorded was in the directory where I wanted. Good! So, I go to watch the file, an .mp4, and my video playback software (which supports .mp4) stated it was not a compatible video format.

But wait, it gets better. This software has simple video editing tools. Solution: Put it through the video editor, and export it as a compatible video format. If only that were the case. I went to open my recording with the built-in editing software, and it ALSO does not recognize the .mp4 file. What on Earth is up with that?! It can't even recognize its own file it made not even 5 minutes ago. What kind of "versatile tool" is this supposed to be, if it can't recognize its own product?

So, next I said, "Screw it, just toss it on YouTube to see if I can at least get the crystal clear quality and decent frame rate I aim for in videos." -- Nope. youtube doesn't recognize this format. Which is baffling because it's .mp4. YouTube even states in a long list of supported video formats, .mp4 amond SO MANY OTHERS I have never heard of, were supported.

Am I the only one having this issue? Am I missing a step? Because, as it sits right now, I'm really starting to miss that $50 I dropped on this virtually worthless software. Do I recommend it? No. Not until I get some kind of progress towards a solution in this mess.

UPDATE - Still doesn't work
It records my desktop and the menu of games, but the moment I hit a loading screen the .mp4 corrupts. I am getting this garbage off my computer and my $50 back. Extremely disappointed.

First impression review:
After having recorded a few Rocket League matches.
Easy to understand interface and super fast to get started as first time user without any hazzle.
Set up with my prefered settings took me no longer then 2 minutes from clicking installation to first Rocket League match getting started with the web camera right where I want it and absolutly no frame drops.

After 48 hours of usage review:
CL SR 3D is a very stable program with almost impossible to spot performance difference between "On" (live/recording) and "Off" (not using program).
I can in "Windows Task Manager" see a small increase in usage of the computers RAM & CPU but it is impossble to spot with a certain a FPS differance in games like Rocket League.

I havent had any trouble with the program itself when tweaking its settings, only external (outside the program) ones.

10/10 for the recording/streaming part of the program.

With Screen Recorder I can continue gaming and working with minimal impact.
The product integrates well with the important streaming platforms. I'm used to use the old version of Screen Recorder with no streaming options.
While like the new features a lot, I think the price is a bit to heavy for people who don't plan to use it. (It's 95%+ ?)
For sure an other version on Steam with only the screen record functionality for 7-12€ would be a great success for you! (here in Germany the price is now 50€)

I have to say that I recommend Cyberlink products in general. It's for me the best performing software in speed and stability money can buy and they give you very good offers to upgrade your software after a new release.

10 hours in and yes I can with ease say this program is doing what it is supposed to be doing and I will gladly continue use this over other simillar programs out there:

This is so smooth to use and handle,
No fuzz with this or that, that needs tweaking.

Apart from a very simple one time (ever) log in to online sites this is;

Just one click to choose what one wants to be doing and one more click to go live/record.

For me as a so and so occasional streamer this is perfect.

TL;DR
Really great software for making vlog entries / tutorials / record whatever else you want from desktop.
For gameplay capture, unless you are a professional streamer/youtuber, shadowplay will probably do just fine.

I was using the screen capture ability within PowerDirector 14 to record videos of applications and my desktop.
While that worked for me for some years I now have a much better tool in Screen Recorder 3.

Pros:
Much more lightweight compared to PD14
More options available for screen recording.
MUCH easier to use.
Better user interface.

Cons:
It's a screen recorder not a fully fledged video editor like PD14. Not sure if that is really a con though. Seriously I can't think of a con.

Neutral:
I see a CPU usage around 5% when capturing. I have not benchmarked other screen capture software so I do not know if that is high or low in comparison to others.

How I use screen recorder 3:
For gameplay capture I have always been using NVidia Shadowplay. And to be honest I am not sure I would stop doing that for now.
It is just something I got used to do and habits are hard to break!
But. With a dedicated encoder PC, for hardcore streamers, you can actually choose to encode a device (input) instead of the desktop.
That saves your CPU cycles for gaming and higher FPS on your gaming rig.
But I am not a serious gamer enough to have that setup.
I game and I save occasional videos with Nvidia Shadowplay.
So while SR3 has these features as well I have not tried them.

But Shadowplay lacks hard in recording desktop in a convenient way.
You need to record ALL of your esktop and can't choose an application / area to record.
Screen recorder 3 lets you choose which application / area to record in a very easy to use way.

So while Shadowplay works great for my gameplay capture I do not use it to record desktop action.
I had been using PD14 but it was quite heavy to open up the complete editor interface and I've just seen less and less of desktop recording.
SR3 is actually lightweight enough and the GUI is clean and easy to use that it is not as cumbersome to open it up and use it.
It is actually not cumbersome at all and instead very fast to get recording.

From opening it up and (optionally) going through all settings I spent like two minutes before everything was configured the way I wanted it and ready to go.
That was with a four year old running around my feet begging for me to pet a plush horse etc. while setting this up.
It passes the parent test !

This is the software I was lacking for recording those outputs from Picoscope software and making electronics tutorials and PoC's.
I highly recommend this software if you are going to record your desktop!

I sought out this software after OBS, Streamlabs, and a few other screen recording software just decided to stop working on my computer; And no tutorial or advice could ge them working properly. I decided to try this software out, for I saw very little choice to do otherwise.

Quite frankly, I'm glad I did. It's easy to use, hasn't given me any Issues, and not to mention that is has everything I need from a screen recording software. I'm glad I made the decsion to get this.

Would I recommend this software? Yes. However, there are free recording software out there. So I'd advise you try out those first. But if you're looking for a Screen Recorder and don't mind the price, I do recommend CyberLink Screen Recorder 3.
