If game starts with move playback disabled, then you using 3rd party video codecs. Uninstall them or block their use in the game ( E.g This might give you a black screen for ffdshow prompt window, and you set to always not use fddshow. You had to restart. Otherwise manually configure the video codec blacklist of apps).
Disable any video related stuff too just in case, like recording/streaming...
Since it's a japanese game, most likely Nvidia don't have a working profile. Best to create a profile manually for the game executable.
It crash after confirm graphic setting.
Uninstalled all third party codecs, third party players, nothing works. This is on a 10-days old Windows 10 Pro build with Threadripper 1950X and 1080 ti. Even tried downloading the windows 10 N media feature pack thing, of course it does nothing.
Disabled all overlays and monitors programs such as rivatuner/shadowplay etc, basically running windows bareboned.
Their games' FMVs are often broken on my other machines too, i5 3570K + 970 SLI, and laptop with 6700HQ and Geforce 1070. Literally no other games behave like this and no other company with such a solid track record of incompetence.
Speaking of incompetence, Berserk doesn't even run a solid 60 fps at max settings on a Threadripper and 1080 ti, not even in 1080p. In fact, no machines can without lowering environment settings to "low". Do they pay their programmers with WoW gold or something? I've seen way more competence from indie developers than these people.
Yes I'm upset and venting, as this is yet another Koei Tecmo game I have to deal without movie playback because who the hell knows what the hell is wrong with it.
This is dependent on developer competence. While it's true that a lot of Japanese PC ports are terrible, some of them are rather decent. In general, Capcom does a pretty good job of porting to PC. Even going back to games like DMC4, Lost Planet and such. Those games ran at over 100+ fps on hardware at the time of their release. Their fighting games and Resident evil games are also good performers. I think RE6 runs at over 200 fps or something (it's been a while; I recall it ran at least 150+ fps on my machine).
And usually Japanese devs that use western engines tend to do well. Tekken 7 was pretty decent - ran very smoothly on a wide range of hardware, though it does have some small issues (rare/occasional short pauses - potentially due to denuvo? Not sure).
Of course, on the other hand Koei Tecmo doesn't even support xbox one controllers on the PC (Right Trigger doesn't work). You always have some hoops to jump with Koei Tecmo that you don't have to with Capcom.

Install that patch and I can run the game now. Next is performance ...
