Digital Combat Simulator: A-10C Warthog

Over complicated or poorly implemented?
Im finding that the DCS products seem poorly implemented, buggy, lack any real manuals and overall poor quaity. Ive bought A10C, F15c, Combined arms. A10c is complicated and the documentation and training implementation is lacking, F15c unplayable, the training is nada nothing, ZERO. The flight model and joystick routine/calibration and configuration is impossible to get right. The plane either rolls right or left or pitches up. If this is due to wind affects there's nothing to tell you thats what it is. Combined ARMS lets you play and I like the game but YOU CANT save a mission and come back to it AND its frustrating to play an hour or so mission, make some progress then HAVE the GAME LOCK up WTF. I'm done purchasing DCS products. ITS wayyyyyyyyyy to frustrating. Time to clear my hard drive of all their products.

It's complicated at the A-10C level, try the a-10A version. The F15 is easy, so dont know about that. Depending on your Stick and Throttle, verify your calibration in the software. I am using a downloaded file in my TM Cougar, it has an issue with the Rudders hard left so I was rolling as soon as I was in the air, but a tap of the rudder peddles has fixed that temporarily until I get a fix.. So check your flight controls. Start with the beginner training missions, and yes its overly complicated, and this is the market they are chasing. If you want easier flight models, like the f-15 version you already have, get flaming cliffs 3 it has plenty of beginner a/c models to fly around.

hmm lacks manuals... you didn't look hard enough (you can view them all through steam or in the games folder, or their website)

A-10C is complicated just like the real thing because it uses the same HOTAS controls as the real thing.

F-15C is far from unplayable.

the training is what you make of it and how much you want to learn, if you want spoon fed training you aren't cut out for this simulator since real training comes from the flight hours and actually doing.

game locking up is a problem on your end as it has been rock solid for quite a few versions for awhile now.

Well I've played all types of flight simulators from Janes f14 to Allied Force Falcon f16, and everything in between, I've read manuals 300+ pages done tutorials , highlighted points in the manuals as if I'm studyong for a test, in just about every sim you can name. Ive flown in virtual squadrons with far more complicated training than in this game. NONE of these games are as difficult to setup and run as this one. Its not the complication I have a problem with, Its the nagging control settings that make the sim roll left or right or fly up and down. Theres nothing in the game manual that really explains IS this WIND causing this or is it poor joystick routine or what.
THEN to calibrate the thing you have to exit the mission go back to the main screen, make adjustments then go tryu it again. Thats poor design becasue it takes a minute for the game to load each time.
As for it being rock solid, I see TONS of forums post with the same issue I'm having. So I appreciate your appreciation for the simulator BUT to me its liking polish and a decent manual that explains all thats going on. BUT hey that just my opinion. Ive deleted it and move on to Free Falcon and some other flight simulators.

if you've played lots of flight sims its really messed up you don't know how to trim your aircraft... lets face it, IT IS the complexity that is giving you a hard time.

its not DCS fault for having its controls emulate the real HOTAS commands and setup, if you don't know what a boat switch, a DSMS page and the TMS hat are then you haven't put enough time to know why you should bind them... let alone where they are located in the controls area... this isn't instant gratification like your expecting. The fact your posting here, instead of DCS world discussion just highlights that you have no idea what you've gotten yourself into. Your complaining about manual size being small but can't even locate the manual for yourself and notice that it is 600+ pages long on the A-10C alone... and that was yesterday so without ever actually reading the 600 pages you deem things to difficult and move on, thats the level of patience you have and that is exactly the kind of gamer that DCS world (or any module) will weed out... and yea I've played BMS (which I guess you have never heard of either which is very strange for such an involved flight simmer) and falcon 4 and they next release falcon 4 allied force and one thing they did worse is mapping the controls, with one big list, HOTAS commands in the same list as the gamey hotkeys that don't actually exist and the fact that half the time you have to save and reload and re-enter the controls page to continue mapping keys because it stops registering your pushes.... yea really user friendly... the only reason to play BMS or freefalcon at this point is for the sweet dynamic campaign and other reason is pretty meh.

compare that to DCS that has seperate control lists for game and full real, that breaks up everything to its own categorys and has all axis assignments on one page, or the fact you can easily create a button on your stick to make hats do more then one function.... yea I can see how that can be a lot to handle but thats the point.... to make no compromises and give us a realistic simulation, I'm sorry that you want it dumbed down but NONE of us want it dumbed down... your talking about a community that gets mad when rudder can be used to taxi an aircraft instead of differential braking.

enough is enough, stop the insanity and play something easier and less involving, I really hope you have moved on because there are far to many people who think they are ready for this kinda thing then the people helping can stomach.

yea right you can't even calibrate your joystick, you have no hope in doing anything in this SIM. You know you can press rctrl + enter and see controls indication on screen... no you probably did not.

you will not be missed and I suspect your stick won't work properly in other flight sims either, I guess you left it collecting dust to long!

The only time that any of the planes pitch up randomly and freakout is when they arent calibrated correctly. I have a Thrustmaster HOTAS and when flying the F15 if I move the left throttle foreward instead of the right one which is the correct one the F15 pitches around and does some crazy moves. There is obviously something you are missing because not only do all the DCS products work I can get them to work and I havent flown them from the begining like you have. Check their forums people there are happy as hell to help if you arent a douche.

As of 1.5 you can modify the controls in flight with the escape menu. If you are worried about your input, go to the axis assign page and highlight the pitch, roll, and rudder and go into "axis tune" on the bottom of the page. There you can see exactly how DCS is interpreting HOTAS input. I've flown all the A-10C tutorials while starting and it was one of the best flight sim tutorials I've seen, it got me into the air but with a firm understanding of what was going on before takeoff in the intro and startup tutorials.

both. and frankly, the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ devs don't implement modernf eatures like proper threading for multicores resulting in tons of sloppy and chuggy gameplay

You mean "Didn't" implement. Right? Also your "Proper Threading" statement should have been
"Proper Multi-Core". Right? But they are the "Tards" as you state.

There are only a hand full of games that are Multi-Core and they aren't the ones that have
been on the market for yrs. as this title has. Right?

No Sloppy or laggy gameplay on my end, so too are other simming at a good click soooooo
well I will let you guess as to the result of your problems.

Jackal, I feel you bro. You bring up some good points. Unfortunately, the DCS community is the worst PC Elitest crowd on the internet and you will not find answers. There are no Dev's here anymore, they stopped supporting the STEAM version of this game about a year ago.

It is overly complicated and as you see, people will call you an idiot if you even mention it.

DCS took a great sim and made it too cumbersome for the average weekend warrior. That should make the trolls fees better, I just called them above average. Good for you trolls.

Wrong about everything, AND the ever popular "I'm leaving, here's my pissy opinion about the company".
NO ONE CARES. The sooner you learn that son, the sooner you'll get ahead in life instead of whining like a baby.

So what you are really saying is the A10C is poorly made and not user friendly and blame that on the developers of DCS????? Seriously if you don't want this level of complexity a sim is not what you want to buy, you want an arcade game like ace combat or something. This has nothing to do with being elistist but simply your bad choice of software.

And no they took an arcade game and built out to be a sim(well opn some aircraft a lot are still basically arcade aircraft). The fact that you don't like that doesn't matter one single bit, that only means you'll have to start looking somwhere else to find your level of enjoyment.

It simulates the real aircraft very well and if oyu find that too comlicated and cumbersome it's not the devs fault. It's your fault for not having any willpower to actually learn to fly a compicated aircraft like the A10C. Do you actually realize how many hours real life A10C pilots have to go through to learn to fly and manage this thing? And you expect to be able to do that instantly????

Are you really that entitled? Or just plain stupid?
