Excavation Question- Artifact Related

I know resetting Excavations is a bad thing, but when I reach a certain level, reincarnating for reset will be detrimental.

I need 40 artifacts to unlock a research and I need another artifact, unfortunately the artifacts require you NOT to reincarnate or even abidcate, well except the Drow Flame Artifact for unlocking slots HOWEVER I very much I want to try and get that one.

I have 11 rubies, and I kind of want to waste 1 when I run out of possible excavations for my run, so I should have a lot more chances to get a trophy.

Again let me repeat; Reincarnating or even abdicating is detrimental to my already progress.

Would it really be so bad to waste just 1 ruby in an attempt to try and further get the artifact I am currently by allowing more excavations. Sure, maybe I could get artifacts later, BUT I kind of want to just finish off my research, and then try and focus on ascending which is my next big goal coming up.

As for the Drow Slot increasing artifact, I definitely can get that within the few reincarnations, hopefully (even this reincarnation, If I make the right build), but I need to focus on my specific artifact at the moment.

I do recall seeing an artifact you can get upon ascending but I just need one more to unlock the research that's blocking what might be the FINAL research that I need, so I can focus primarily on gems.

You will get Wall Fragment upon ascending anyway. Plus theres a lot of easier artifacts you can get other than the drow artifact even before ascension, and that drow artifact isnt useful for any run any more in post-A. Its best to keep rubies for time warps as these are the best use of your time.

Its up to you how you want to play the game though.

From your post, it appears that there's a specific artifact you're trying to obtain. It seems probable that you're focusing on an artifact that needs significant preparation to obtain a reasonable excavation chance, such as the Bottled Voice or Stone of Balance, but you don't say what it is.

If you only need one artifact, it might be that you would have better chances of success with a different one.

Since rubies are mostly useless anyway I don't think it's bad to use them to reset reincarnations. I did it a couple of times.

Resetting excavations is the WORST use of rubies. If you want to use rubies, use them for timewarps to skip timewalls.
