A few questions.

Firstly,
I'm at R24, need 1e99 gems to get to the next but it seems everything has stalled since the event ended. What should I be doing to get over the "gem wall"?

Secondly,
I'm obviously into the research stuff but I feel as if I'm missing things I should have - and have no clue why. No guides and searching the forums seem to provide little information on the "How"
For example I'm missing Alchemy 25, 55, which are both "basic" research but I'm unsure of how to progress them.

- how does research work? am I mis-reading or not seeing something obvious in how to unlock them? all I see is the "Progress <%>" and sometimes "Progress <%>" and "Research 1: ???" etc.
or "Research 2: ???", or even both.

Thirdly,
I'm sort of feeling as if I can't use any faction other than fairy. Is this intentional? All the others seem to produce way too few gems to be useful at all.

and lastly, fourth,
"Eligible Artifacts: #"
but digging never seems to produce anything.
I've 6/13 Quest, and 18/40 Lore, is this good, bad, or about right for R24?
also if it's bad what am I doing wrong.

1)You should have unlocked all researches.
2)http://musicfamily.org/realm/Researchtree/<----Just hover over any research to see its requirements.
3)If a research only has "progress=%", then it's a basic research. If it has "progress=%, Research 1=???, Research 2=???" that means it's an advanced research that needs the prerequisite researches unlocked.
4)Until R27, fairies are the best research faction.
5)It's about right. You should have gotten another quest artifact at R23, though i guess you haven't excavated much, seeing how you WILL get said artifact at 1500 excavs.

Yeah, events often are a little bit too strong wich is why the ppl can easily advance with really bad builds, and then after the event they complain about gem walls. Just get all remaining researches and maybe look up for some good builds when you are too bad in building good ones by your own. And actually goblins are also pretty nice with research.

Thanks, looked up some of the researches. Seems I'm missing fairly easy ones to get and some of them I would have never even begun to guess as possible.

I did excavate over 1500 but - maybe not at 23? perhaps at 20-21. So yes I missed it. my own fault. - thanks for the advice Ivan.

As for the build, you mean "mercenaries" when you speak of builds? or researches? if you mean mercenary build, I don't use them often. I used the fairies for the entire event and I think I've picked the best researches I could, perhaps some of the ones I'll be unlocking over the coming days are even better but, we'll see.

Will be going for the goblin build soon too, looks great and thanks for the tip!

How many trophies do you have? I am a much lower R then you (granded right now I am working towards equality) but I have over E95 gems, (again mostly due to trying to get equality) but defnitly doable.

638/823. Missing some key ones such as Diabolical Evil. Equality, etc. *I like my resets. *
Edit 1> Slightly altered fairy build, tinkered with a few researches (some of the new ones available.) and what do you know, fairies can fly, gem wall is collapsing!

Well, at R24 I usually always mean research builds since the merc phase shouldn't be a problem anymore.

there's a bunch of artifacts that have really low drop rates which scale off of some specific stat. check http://realm-grinder.wikia.com/wiki/Archaeology#Artifacts to see. most of them are only eligible if you stay in a specific faction, so they wouldn't show up in merc builds back in <R15.
