Stuck in the factory

Hey.
I'm in the part where my sword is stuck in the cog and I'm asked to water the machine, which is in a room that feels inaccessible without a sword.
Going from the entrance there are piles of paper, and from the mines, oil lamps blocking my way.
I've watched two walkthroughs on youtube, and both had created a shortcut in the desert before, which I didn't.

Am I soft locked?

I encountered this situation on my second run, not sure why they designed it this way but..

Go through the mines up the swimming portion, past the left conveyor area into the central area with those oil lamps blocking the south like you mentioned. Keep going east in to the right conveyor and exit south and you should come out in to the truck area where you can go north to the room with the toilet and just to west is the room where you will be on the other side of the papers and can continue on from there.
