in the secret temple, what does the ghost mean about the start is what shows the end where it grows, im stumped

I'll give ya a hint. There's four plants in that room, there's only four of one other thing in the game.

Also, that puzzle isn't required to beat the game, so feel free to move on if you don't want to solve it.
