You need to throw your sword at the bombs. If you haven't got the item to do that, explore the desert more.

I don't know what these bombs are that are being mentioned. I go into the mine and dont see any bombs, though I can't go far due to one door being barracaded and the other is blocked with water

Follow the mine cart tracks. You'll notice a track leading to the left. That leads to the bombs.
